Electricity price reaches highest level of 3,015 VND/kWh, how much more do people have to pay?

The average retail electricity price will increase from the current VND1,826.22/kWh to VND1,920.37/kWh, equivalent to a 3% increase from May 4.

The retail price of electricity for household use will increase in steps and the highest level will be 3,015 VND/kWh.

New electricity price list compared to current one

According to EVN, currently, in the structure of electricity customers, there are about 528,000 business service customers, on average each month business customers pay 5.3 million VND/month for electricity. After the price change, each month customers will have to pay an additional 141,000 VND.

With 1.822 million production households, on average each production household has to pay 10.6 million VND for electricity each month. After the price change, each production household will pay an additional 307,000 VND each month.

There are 662,000 administrative and professional customers, on average each administrative and professional customer pays 2.01 million VND/month for electricity. After the price change, each of these customers will pay an additional 40,000 VND/month.

For households, according to EVN's calculations, the additional electricity bill for households consuming 50 kWh/month is VND 2,500/household (the number of households using less than 50 kWh of electricity in 2022 under EVN is 3.33 million households, accounting for 11.98% of the total number of households using electricity for daily life).

The additional electricity bill for a household consuming 100 kWh/month is VND 5,100/household (the number of households using electricity from 51-100 kWh in 2022 under EVN is 4.7 million households, accounting for 16.85% of the total number of households using electricity for daily life).

The additional electricity bill for households consuming 200 kWh/month is VND 11,100/household (the number of households using electricity from 101-200 kWh in 2022 under EVN is 10.04 million households, accounting for 36.01% of the total number of households using electricity for daily life), this is the customer group with the largest proportion.

The additional electricity bill for a household consuming 300 kWh/month is VND 18,700/household (the number of households using electricity from 201-300 kWh in 2022 under EVN is 4.96 million households, accounting for 17.81% of the total number of households using electricity for daily life).

The additional electricity bill for a household consuming 400 kWh/month is VND 27,200/household (the number of households using electricity from 301-400 kWh in 2022 under EVN is 2.21 million households, accounting for 7.95% of the total number of households using electricity for daily life).

Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Deputy General Director of EVN also said: "For customers such as enterprises and steel factories, the increase in electricity price will increase the cost by about 0.78%, for customers producing cement, the cost will increase by about 0.45% and for customers producing paper, the cost will increase by 0.4%".

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nam, Deputy General Director of EVN, this increase in electricity prices will help EVN reduce financial difficulties. Accordingly, revenue for the remaining 8 months of 2023 is forecast to increase by about 8,000 billion VND.
