On March 29, informing NB&CL, art researcher Ngo Kim Khoi - the grandson of painter Nam Son, said that he and members of Nam Son's family sent a letter to the Board of Directors of Christie's auction house to protest the sale of the painting "Northern Confucian Scholar" by painter Nam Son.

Mr. Khoi said that the work "Nhan Nho Xu Bac" (portrait of Mr. Sy Duc, who was both the uncle and teacher of painter Nam Son) is an important part of the legacy of painter Nam Son's family. According to a clear agreement recorded in the family minutes, the sale of this work is not allowed.
“It has been clearly decided that the works of the artist Nam Son, including this painting, must be preserved with the aim of establishing a museum dedicated to his artistic legacy. The sale of this work violates our family’s common decision and infringes on the family’s legal ownership rights.
Therefore, we request that you immediately withdraw this work from any scheduled or ongoing auctions. We also request that you provide detailed information about the origin of this sale, so that our family can conduct an investigation into how this work came to be auctioned at Christie's," Mr. Ngo Kim Khoi emphasized.
Mr. Khoi affirmed that the work "Nhan Nho Xu Bac" truly belongs to Nam Son's artistic heritage and it only deserves to be present in the museum named after him. Entering a private collection, this work will lose its inherent value and even become the subject of legal disputes.

Mr. Khoi added that his extended family is ready to take necessary legal measures to protect the family's legitimate rights and preserve the integrity of Nam Son's artistic heritage.
Previously, Christie's website posted an auction notice for the painting "Northern Confucian Scholar" with an estimated price of 180,000 - 280,000 Hong Kong dollars.
