Applying high-rise models in pig farming helps save land funds
According to Agriculture and Environment newspaper, during a recent working trip to China, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien and the Vietnamese delegation visited and studied the high-tech pig farming model at Muyuan Group.
Muyuan Group is one of the world's leading enterprises in modern and circular pig farming. This is an opportunity for the Vietnamese livestock industry to directly access the most advanced technologies, while opening up a path of substantive cooperation with regional strategic partners in the context of the livestock industry entering a period of strong transformation.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien shared about the impressive development of Vietnam's livestock industry over the past 15 years. From a small-scale livestock industry, Vietnam has risen to become the 5th country in the world in terms of total pig herd, 6th in output and 4th in pork consumption. In the period 2020-2024, livestock is the fastest and most stable growing sector in agriculture, accounting for nearly 30% of the agricultural GDP and 5% of the national GDP.
Achievements such as the successful production of the world's first African swine fever vaccine, or the successful construction of a closed food chain "AZ Food" from a multi-level livestock farming model show remarkable progress in science and technology in the industry.
In Vietnam, the multi-storey pig farming model has been in the making since 2016 and is expanding rapidly. The promulgation of TCVN 14209:2024 on multi-storey pig farms has created a legal corridor for large corporations such as BAF Vietnam, Xuan Thien... to be ready to deploy on a large scale. However, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien emphasized the requirement for strict management of planning, design and operation to control the risk of disease, environmental pollution, livestock density and ensure animal welfare with this model.
