Currently, the purchase price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 49,000 - 52,000 VND/kg.
* Pig prices in the South ranged from VND1,000/kg to VND3,000/kg last week.
In detail, Kien Giang province reduced 3,000 VND/kg to 48,000 VND/kg.
49,000 - 53,000 VND/kg is the price range recorded in the remaining localities after a decrease of 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg.
The price of live pigs in the Southern region today is between 48,000 - 53,000 VND/kg.
* Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice President of the Dong Nai Province Livestock Association, said that for more than 2 months now, the price of live pigs has dropped very low, remaining below 54,000 VND/kg, even selling for only 48,000 - 49,000 VND/kg.
“It is now the time to import pigs for the end of the year and Lunar New Year. Due to low prices, people are hesitant to import pigs to restock their herds. In addition, the disease situation is seriously threatening, so people are not raising pigs,” said Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan.
Mr. Duong Tat Thang, Director of the Department of Livestock (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that livestock prices are a matter of market regulation, from input prices, supply, and consumption capacity.
Mr. Thang emphasized that there were times when the price of pork reached 65,000 VND/kg, 70,000 VND/kg, but there were also times when it dropped to more than 40,000 VND/kg, which was completely normal. However, from the perspective of State management, the Department only controlled the total herd, enhanced quality, and monitored inputs and raw materials.
“With prices around 54,000 VND/kg or lower, farmers will not make a profit. If they fall below 50,000 VND/kg, farmers will definitely suffer losses. However, we have to accept that when the market goes up, we win, and when the market goes down, we also have to accept the risks,” the Director of the Department of Livestock Production shared.
