Northern pig price
In the North, the market remained stable on the morning of May 6 with prices fluctuating between 66,000 - 67,000 VND/kg.
Of which, the highest level recorded in this area is 67,000 VND/kg, appearing in provinces such as Hanoi , Bac Giang, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Nam Dinh and Phu Tho.
Pig price in Central Highlands
In the Central Highlands, the price of live pigs tends to decrease in three localities including Hue, Binh Dinh and Lam Dong , with the levels of 69,000 VND/kg, 70,000 VND/kg and 73,000 VND/kg respectively.
Currently, prices between localities in this region are significantly differentiated, fluctuating between 67,000 and 74,000 VND/kg.
Southern pig price
In the Southern region, live pig prices continued to decrease in localities such as Binh Duong , Tay Ninh, Long An and Tra Vinh, with the same price of 73,000 VND/kg.
According to the latest records, traders in the South are purchasing live pigs at prices ranging from 73,000 - 74,000 VND/kg.
According to experts in the livestock industry, keeping the average price of live pigs at around 70,000 VND/kg, in the context of falling prices of animal feed ingredients, has helped livestock households and businesses gain significant profits.
However, the herd restoration process is facing many obstacles as piglet prices increase sharply and piglet supply becomes scarce. Piglet prices currently range from 1.5 to 2.2 million VND/pig weighing 7-10 kg, accounting for about 30% of production costs.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien said that pork prices account for about 65% and directly affect the consumer price index (CPI). Therefore, restructuring the livestock industry, especially pig farming, requires time, a roadmap and careful, scientific calculation to avoid the "massive" mentality as in the past.
"The high price of live pigs brings profits to farmers and businesses, but at the same time, it also poses the problem of controlling inflation. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine needs to guide localities to increase herd restoration but must ensure biosafety, stabilize food supply soon, and ensure harmonious benefits for both farmers and consumers," Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien emphasized.
According to information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Tra Vinh province, prices of livestock and poultry meat have been on an upward trend since April, causing many livestock farmers in the province to boost herd restoration and increase the number of livestock. However, the vaccination rate against dangerous diseases in livestock and poultry remains low.
Specifically, vaccination against avian influenza since the beginning of the year has reached nearly 1.1 million animals, equivalent to about 35% of the set target; vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease for livestock has reached more than 78,470 animals, equal to 24% of the plan; lumpy skin disease in cattle and buffaloes has been vaccinated for 5,400 animals, accounting for 4% of the target; and African swine fever has been vaccinated for 7,500 animals, only reaching 5% of the yearly plan.
Mr. Le Van Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tra Vinh province, emphasized that the local agricultural sector has directed the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, together with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the districts, to step up propaganda so that people fully implement vaccination and record information in the monitoring book.
The provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment has also assigned veterinary staff to coordinate with communes to organize training courses on safe livestock farming techniques and the use of biological bedding for poultry farming. In addition, farmers are required to raise awareness of disease prevention, promptly inform the government and relevant agencies when detecting diseases so that measures can be taken to prevent the risk of widespread outbreaks.
