Pepper prices increase, businesses expect better market at year-end

Domestic and world pepper prices have both increased compared to yesterday. Although the price has not yet broken out, many experts assess that the pepper market is showing more positive signs in the coming time when year-end demand may increase.

According to information from many gardeners and agents, on the afternoon of July 31, the domestic pepper market continued to increase in price in many regions, increasing by an average of 1,500 - 2,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Currently, the price fluctuates between 139,000 - 140,500 VND/kg.

Accordingly, in Gia Lai province, pepper prices were purchased by many agents at 139,000 VND/kg. Pepper prices in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City increased by 1,000 - 1,500 VND/kg, announced at 139,000 - 140,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, after a series of days of unchanged prices, Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces increased by 1,500 - 2,000 VND/kg in today's trading session, respectively, to 139,500 - 140,500 VND/kg.

In the world market, pepper prices after falling across many regions today have rebounded compared to yesterday. The Indonesian exchange - one of the most active markets - increased by 0.07%. Black and white pepper are traded in the range of 7,109 - 9,937 USD/ton.

Similarly, the Brazilian market increased by 1.67%, raising the transaction level to 6,000 USD/ton. Meanwhile, the prices of black and white pepper from Malaysia were maintained at 11,750 USD/ton and 8,900 USD/ton.

In Vietnam's pepper export market, the price of 500g/l and 550g/l black pepper is currently hovering around 6,140 - 6,270 USD/ton. The price of ASTA white pepper is 8,850 USD/ton.

According to businesses, in addition to supply and demand factors, political tensions and recent tariff-related instability have caused many fluctuations in pepper prices. Pepper prices have been gradually increasing over the past two weeks, although the increase is quite modest.

According to a report by the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), global pepper output in 2025 will still not be able to meet demand. Although output has increased in Brazil, it cannot compensate for the decrease in other countries.

In the first 6 months of the year, Vietnam imported a total of 28,296 tons of pepper, with a turnover of 174.1 million USD, a sharp increase of 57.2% in volume and 150.1% in turnover over the same period. On the other hand, exports reached 123,261 tons, with a turnover of more than 848 million USD, down 13.5% in volume, but up 33.9% in turnover over the same period in 2024.

Many experts believe that the market in the second half of 2025 will likely be more prosperous than the first half of the year as importers are forced to return to importing goods to supplement supply and meet production and consumption needs at the end of the year.
