On the afternoon of November 14 local time, at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington DC, USA, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien had a working session with the US Under Secretary of State for Economic, Environment and Energy Jacob Helberg.

At the working session, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed that Vietnam has always maintained its consistent view that expanding cooperation with the United States in the high-tech field is a strategic move, in line with the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Vietnam aims for growth based on science, technology and innovation, striving to achieve a growth rate of over 10% in the next decade. Accordingly, Vietnam's cooperation with the United States in artificial intelligence (AI), high technology and the development of a technology ecosystem is considered appropriate and necessary.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien also emphasized that Vietnam has shown goodwill in trade negotiations, helping the United States achieve many favorable results for its partners. Therefore, Vietnam wants a reasonable, flexible solution, suitable for the comprehensive strategic partnership. He suggested that the United States consider issues such as removing Vietnam from the D1 and D3 lists restricting the export of high-tech products and recognizing Vietnam's market economy, thereby creating a foundation to promote stronger cooperation in the coming time.

The 5th round of direct negotiations on the Reciprocal Trade Agreement concluded

According to the agreed plan, the 5th round of direct negotiations on the Reciprocal Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the United States was held from November 12-14 in Washington DC, USA. The Vietnamese negotiating delegation was led by Minister of Industry and Trade, Head of the Government Negotiation Delegation Nguyen Hong Dien.

During the three days of negotiations, the Vietnamese and US negotiating delegations made great progress on many issues such as services, digital trade, agriculture, technical barriers to trade (TBT), food safety and hygiene standards (SPS)... and narrowed the gap on the remaining issues.

At the meeting summarizing the negotiation session, the Representative of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and the Representative of the Vietnamese Negotiation Delegation both said that the negotiation session had very positive results, creating a favorable basis for the early completion of the Vietnam - US Reciprocal Trade Agreement.

The United States highly appreciated the goodwill, efforts and creative approach of the Vietnamese Negotiating Delegation, especially the results of the direct negotiation session between Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer held right before the official technical negotiation session.

Based on Vietnam's requests, the United States has had initial positive responses and said it could consider handling them based on the overall negotiation results.

The two sides also agreed on the work to be carried out after the negotiation session and agreed to hold a number of online meetings in the coming days to continue discussing outstanding issues as well as prepare for the online ministerial-level negotiation between Chief Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Minister Nguyen Hong Dien scheduled to take place this November.

In addition to the negotiation activities, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had working sessions with the US Deputy Secretary of State, Congressman, Chairman of the House Tax Committee and met with leaders of technology and semiconductor corporations and the US Footwear and Apparel Association to promote bilateral economic, investment and trade cooperation activities as well as advocate for Vietnam's reciprocal trade negotiation process.
