
Armed forces evacuate people from flooded areas in Gia Lai province.
According to the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, from November 16 to November 19, Gia Lai province experienced very heavy and prolonged rain, especially in Van Canh with 897mm of rain (on November 19, there was 500mm of rain), and in Quy Nhon with 879mm of rain (on November 19, there was 447mm of rain). Heavy rain caused flood water levels to rise very quickly, causing deep and widespread flooding in the basins of the Ha Thanh, Kon, and Ba rivers; the water level of the Ha Thanh river alone was 23cm higher than the historical flood peak in 2009.
According to preliminary statistics, more than 19,200 houses were flooded over 1.5 m deep, many places were flooded from 2-3 m, widely distributed throughout the province; mainly concentrated in the wards of Quy Nhon, Quy Nhon Dong, Quy Nhon Tay, Quy Nhon Nam, Quy Nhon Bac, Ayun Pa and the communes of Tuy Phuoc, Tuy Phuoc Dong, Tuy Phuoc Tay, Tuy Phuoc Bac, Ia Sao, Ia Tul, Ia Pa, Ia Rsai, Uar, Phu Tuc, Po To....
The natural disaster caused damage to people, houses, properties, trees, crops, canals, dams, production facilities of people and businesses. The initial total damage is estimated at more than 1,000 billion VND.
In order to promptly support the difficulties of people whose houses were flooded, lost property and crops, so that their lives can soon be stabilized. Gia Lai province has decided to provide emergency support to people who suffered damage to overcome the consequences of historic floods.
Specifically, rice support of 15kg/person/month for households whose houses are flooded, support period of 3 months. Cash support for poor households, near-poor households, and households in especially difficult circumstances whose houses are flooded is 2 million VND/household/month, support period of 3 months.
In addition, households whose houses completely collapsed will receive support of 60 million VND/house; households whose roofs were completely blown off will receive support of 5 million VND/house; households whose roofs were partially damaged or blown off will receive support of 2 million VND/house.
Funding sources are drawn from the budget, the Disaster Prevention and Control Fund, socialized sources and other legal sources of capital.
