Agricultural product prices on April 1, 2025: Coffee increased again, pepper decreased slightly

Coffee prices rise again

On the London exchange, at 5:00 a.m. on April 1, 2025, Robusta coffee prices were adjusted down after yesterday's trading session, down from 51 - 68 USD/ton, fluctuating between 5,162 - 5,410 USD/ton. Specifically, the delivery price for May 2025 is 5,269 USD/ton, July 2025 is 5,295 USD/ton, September 2025 is 5,263 USD/ton and November 2025 is 5,177 USD/ton.

Similarly, the price of Arabica coffee on the New York floor on the morning of April 1 also decreased slightly compared to the previous trading session, down from 1.25 - 1.70 cents/lb, fluctuating between 362.60 - 386.40 cents/lb. The delivery price for May 2025 is currently 378.70 cents/lb, July 2025 is 374.70 cents/lb, September 2025 is 370.20 cents/lb and December 2025 is 362.95 cents/lb.

In contrast, the price of Brazilian Arabica coffee increased slightly after the end of the trading session compared to yesterday, with an increase of 0.40 - 3.75 USD/ton, fluctuating in the range of 457.80 - 490.00 USD/ton. The specific delivery prices are: May 2025 is 486.00 USD/ton, July 2025 is 473.50 USD/ton, September 2025 is 468.20 USD/ton and December 2025 is 458.80 USD/ton.

Domestic coffee prices

Updated domestic coffee prices at 5:00 a.m. on April 1, 2025 showed that coffee prices in the Central Highlands provinces have recovered compared to yesterday, increasing from 600 - 800 VND/kg depending on the region. The average purchase price is currently 132,900 VND/kg.

Specifically, the coffee price in Dak Lak today is 133,000 VND/kg, Lam Dong is 132,000 VND/kg, Gia Lai is 132,800 VND/kg and Dak Nong is 133,000 VND/kg.

According to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa), coffee exports are estimated to reach about 2.8 billion USD in the first quarter of 2025. If coffee prices remain at this level in the following quarters, the coffee industry could reach a record export of 8 billion USD in 2025.

Vicofa said the main reason for the strong growth in export value was due to the 73% increase in coffee prices, from $3,228/ton in the first quarter of 2024 to $5,614/ton in the first quarter of 2025. Previously, during the period from 2010 to 2023, Vietnam's coffee export price was only around $2,000/ton. However, since the beginning of 2024, coffee prices have increased continuously and even increased dramatically at times.

In 2024, Vietnam exported a total of 1.34 million tons of coffee, reaching a record value of 5.62 billion USD. The average export price also reached an all-time high of 4,177 USD/ton, up 59% compared to 2023.

Entering the first quarter of 2025, export prices continued to maintain a strong upward trend, surpassing the level of 5,600 USD/ton, especially in the first half of March 2025, reaching 5,798 USD/ton. With this trend, the price of 6,000 USD/ton is expected to be established soon.

Pepper prices slightly decreased

According to the update at 5:00 a.m. on April 1, 2025, the domestic pepper market has slightly decreased compared to yesterday, with a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg in all localities. Currently, the pepper purchase price in key areas fluctuates around 158,400 VND/kg.

Specifically, pepper price in Gia Lai today decreased by 1,000 VND/kg compared to the previous trading session, currently the purchase price here is 158,000 VND/kg. Similarly, pepper price in Ba Ria - Vung Tau also recorded a price of 158,000 VND/kg.

Pepper price in Binh Phuoc has decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, currently the purchase price here is 158,000 VND/kg, similar to other areas.

In Dak Lak, pepper price also decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, the current purchase price is 159,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, pepper price in Dak Nong decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, currently purchased at 160,000 VND/kg.

World pepper price

According to information from the International Pepper Community (IPC) at 5:00 a.m. on April 1, 2025, the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper is currently fluctuating at 7,239 USD/ton; while the price of Muntok white pepper is traded at 10,066 USD/ton.

In Malaysia, ASTA black pepper price is currently at USD 9,900/ton, and ASTA white pepper is priced at USD 12,400/ton.

In Brazil, pepper prices have stabilized after previous adjustments, with black pepper currently purchased at $7,000/ton.

The Vietnamese pepper export market continues to remain stable and at a high level. Specifically, the current export price of Vietnamese black pepper is 7,100 USD/ton for the 500 g/l type; the 550 g/l type is traded at 7,300 USD/ton, and the current price of white pepper is 10,100 USD/ton.

Pepper export situation

In the last trading session of March 2025, domestic pepper prices fluctuated at 159,000 - 160,000 VND/kg, an increase of 2,000 to 4,000 VND/kg throughout the month.

Although the pepper harvest has just begun, putting pressure on prices in the short term, many forecasts suggest that pepper prices will continue to increase in the long term.

Pepper harvesting activities in key areas are taking place very actively. Dak Nong has harvested about 70% of the area, Dak Lak has reached 40%, and Gia Lai and Dong Nai have harvested approximately 50%.

It is expected that in March 2025, Vietnam will export from 16,000 to 18,000 tons of pepper, and total exports in the first quarter of 2025 are estimated at about 43,000 - 45,000 tons, the lowest in the past 6 years.
