Coffee prices continue to fall

On the London floor, at 5:00 a.m. on May 9, 2025, at the end of the trading session, Robusta coffee prices suddenly rebounded, recording an increase of 22 - 26 USD/ton compared to the previous session, ranging from 5,027 - 5,301 USD/ton. Specifically, the delivery price for July 2025 reached 5,265 USD/ton; the September 2025 term was 5,213 USD/ton; the price for the November 2025 term was 5,150 USD/ton and the January 2026 term was 5,061 USD/ton.

At the same time, the price of Arabica coffee on the New York floor on the morning of May 9 also recovered strongly, increasing from 3.10 - 3.25 cents/lb compared to the previous session, currently trading in the range of 362.60 - 387.95 cents/lb. Specifically, the July 2025 term reached 387.35 cents/lb; the September 2025 term reached 381.80 cents/lb; the December 2025 term was at 374.25 cents/lb and the March 2026 term recorded 367.55 cents/lb.

At the end of the session, the price of Brazilian Arabica coffee also recorded fluctuations, with the terms ranging from 457.40 - 497.00 USD/ton. Specifically, the term for May 2025 reached 497.00 USD/ton; July 2025 was 487.95 USD/ton; September 2025 was 470.80 USD/ton and December 2025 recorded 457.50 USD/ton.

Updated at 5:00 a.m. on May 9, 2025, coffee prices in the Central Highlands provinces continued to decrease, with a decrease of 300 VND/kg compared to the previous session. Currently, the average purchase price in key localities reached 128,100 VND/kg.

Specifically, coffee prices in Dak Lak are currently at 128,000 VND/kg, in Lam Dong at 127,700 VND/kg, in Gia Lai at 128,000 VND/kg and in Dak Nong at 128,200 VND/kg.

Vietnam is currently the world's second largest coffee exporter. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , in 2024, Vietnam's coffee exports will reach 1.32 million tons, bringing in $5.48 billion. Although output decreased by 18.8% compared to the previous year, export value increased by 29.1% thanks to a sharp increase in coffee prices. Vietnam is famous for Robusta coffee, accounting for the majority of the global Robusta coffee market.

However, most of Vietnam's coffee is still exported in raw or simply processed form. This makes the coffee industry vulnerable to fluctuations in world prices, directly affecting the income of farmers and businesses. Meanwhile, the added value of Vietnamese coffee is still low compared to more developed countries in terms of processing and branding.

Although the Vietnamese coffee brand in the international market is known for its origin, it is still not strong enough in the final consumer product segment. Many international consumers know about Vietnamese coffee, but do not really favor or prioritize brands from Vietnam, except for some brands that have proactively built their own image. This is a great opportunity but requires long-term investment to increase product value.

According to data from the General Department of Customs, in the first 4 months of 2025, Vietnam exported 73,647 tons of pepper, reaching 508.36 million USD. Although output decreased by 11.3% compared to the same period in 2024, export value still increased by 44.4% thanks to the average pepper price reaching 6,903 USD/ton, up 62.7% over the same period.
