Durian price assessment today May 23, 2025
The durian market has shown a continuous downward trend in recent days. After a sharp increase on May 20, prices turned slightly downward from May 21 and fell further on May 22. As of today (May 23), prices have continued to decline at some warehouses, indicating that purchasing power has not really improved.
The durian market on May 23, 2025 continued to record a slight price decrease in many regions, marking a series of days of downward adjustments since peaking on May 20. In the Mekong Delta - the largest durian granary in the country, the common decrease was from 2,000-5,000 VND/kg for popular varieties such as Ri6 and Thai, while high-end varieties such as Musang King remained stable at 120,000-125,000 VND/kg.
The Southeast region has a price range about 5% higher than the West, reflecting transportation costs and stronger demand from major cities. Notably, the most noticeable decline is in the B and C durian segment in the Central Highlands, where supply is abundant but quality is uneven.
This development shows that the market is in a period of adjustment after a strong price increase at the beginning of the week, with the pressure to reduce prices mainly coming from increased inventory at purchasing points and purchasing power at wholesale markets not really breaking through.
960 durian area codes of Vietnam approved
The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) has just announced that the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) has approved the addition of 829 growing area codes and 131 durian packing facility codes of Vietnam, bringing the total number to 960.
This update process takes place every three months, with documents sent to China for appraisal, facilitating durian exports while requiring strict standards of quality and sustainable management.
Since signing the Phytosanitary Protocol for Fresh Durian on July 11, 2022, the Department has worked closely with localities to guide the implementation of regulations and develop qualified growing areas and packing facilities. To date, the Department has proposed 1,604 growing areas and 314 packing facilities, of which 708 growing areas and 168 packing facilities have been previously recognized. Some codes were previously suspended due to the detection of cadmium and yellow O residues. The addition of 960 new codes reflects the continuous efforts of the Ministry, local authorities, businesses and farmers to meet the strict standards of China, which accounts for 80% of Vietnam's durian export value.
