Mr. Nguyen Tan Sanh (Ba Bau village, Tam Xuan 2 commune) is one of the meritorious households that has just completed house repairs with local support in early May 2024.

Mr. Sanh is a relative of a martyr and also a war invalid after being wounded twice while fighting on the Southwestern front. Due to a difficult life, Mr. Sanh cannot afford to build a solid house.

Recently, he received 43 million VND to repair his house, including 40 million VND from the district budget and 3 million VND from the Gratitude Fund. Along with that, the construction team and carpenters in the residential area also contributed nearly 40 working days, equivalent to about 20 million VND.

"In recent years, I have been sick all the time. Now, thanks to the government's care and the people's support, I have a solid house and can live in peace in my old age," said Mr. Sanh.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Sanh's story is just one of many cases benefiting from the housing support program for meritorious people that Nui Thanh district has been trying to implement in recent times.

According to district statistics, from 2023 to present, the Gratitude Fund has mobilized more than 2.2 billion VND, creating important resources to carry out many practical gratitude activities, including supporting the construction and repair of 79 houses for families of meritorious people.

For the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses alone, the district has mobilized more than 1.5 billion VND from socialized sources, along with support from the state budget and organizations and individuals inside and outside the locality.

Since the beginning of 2024, the district has completed support for 41 households with a total cost of nearly 1 billion VND, helping many policy households have a solid home.

The spacious houses built from the joint efforts of the entire political system and social community not only have material significance, but also demonstrate the deep gratitude of the Party Committee, government and people of Nui Thanh district to the generations who sacrificed and contributed to the cause of national liberation and homeland construction.

Care for meritorious people policy

Ms. Vo Thi Hong Trang - Deputy Head of the Department of Internal Affairs of Nui Thanh district said that the whole district currently has nearly 8,500 people with revolutionary contributions, of which more than 4,600 people are receiving monthly preferential allowances. The district always identifies the work of caring for the material and spiritual life of policy beneficiaries as a key and continuous task in the process of socio -economic development.

Over the past years, the district has mobilized tens of billions of VND from the state budget, the Gratitude Fund and socialized resources to support the construction and repair of hundreds of houses for families of meritorious people, contributing to helping households stabilize their lives.

Since the beginning of 2024, the district has continued to promote the program of eliminating temporary housing and dilapidated houses for people with meritorious services, with the goal of not allowing any policy families to live in houses that do not ensure safety conditions.

In addition, the district has well organized the payment of regular allowances, one-time allowances, and funeral support for policy beneficiaries in accordance with regulations. Health care for people with meritorious services is focused on with the issuance of health insurance cards to 100% of beneficiaries.

In addition, the health sector also organizes regular health check-ups and provides free medicine to thousands of meritorious people and their relatives. The campaign to build a Gratitude Fund continues to be promoted, mobilizing hundreds of millions of VND each year to promptly support difficult circumstances.

“We have determined that taking care of people with revolutionary contributions is not only the policy of the Party and the State but also the responsibility and sentiment of the whole society. Therefore, the district always strives to mobilize the synchronous participation of the entire political system, businesses and people to create a strong influence in the movement of “Repaying gratitude”, contributing to improving the quality of life for policy families in the area” - Ms. Trang said.
