The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance has just announced the adjusted price list of pork products under the Market Stabilization Program 2025 - Tet Binh Ngo 2026 in the area, applied from August 9.
Accordingly, many items are discounted by 1,000-10,000 VND/kg, equivalent to 1-7% compared to the current stable price.
Specifically, thigh meat is now 127,000 VND/kg (down 1,000 VND), shoulder meat is down 9,000 - 10,000 VND to 134,000 - 150,000 VND/kg, pork chops are down 5,000 - 8,000 VND to 139,000 - 147,000 VND/kg, pork leg is down 1,000 - 6,000 VND to 119,000 - 125,000 VND/kg...
Enterprises participating in the program include: CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, Vietnam Livestock Industry Corporation (Vissan), Saigon Agricultural Corporation, Central Retail Vietnam Group and Saigon Co.op.
According to a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance, price adjustments in the program are mainly based on actual pork price developments in the market and proposals from participating units, but will ensure a price that is in harmony with the interests of businesses and consumers.
At the beginning of this year, when pork prices in the market continuously increased due to lack of supply, market stabilization enterprises proposed to adjust prices twice, with the total adjustment for both periods ranging from 6,000 - 13,000 VND/kg depending on the type.
A representative of a unit participating in price stabilization said that due to the impact of African swine fever, although pork prices have tended to decrease over time, purchasing power is still low, down 30-35% compared to when it was stable. Therefore, reducing the price of stabilized retail meat is also a solution to stimulate consumer demand.
Meanwhile, according to many farmers, traders, and businesses, the price of live pigs traded on the afternoon of August 15 continued to record a slight decrease in many provinces and cities, especially in the Central and Northern regions.
Specifically in the North, the price of live pigs in Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Thai Binh ... is commonly traded at 58,000 - 60,000 VND/kg; the remaining localities are commonly 57,000 - 58,000 VND/kg, down about 1,000 VND/kg compared to before.
In the Central and Central Highlands, the price ranges from 55,000 - 61,000 VND/kg. In Quang Ngai, Da Nang , Gia Lai, Nghe An... it is 55,000 - 58,000 VND; Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Lam Dong... 57,000 - 61,000 VND/kg
In the Southern region, prices decreased slightly compared to yesterday, down to a common level of 57,000-63,000 VND/kg depending on the type and location. Thus, in the past time, the Southern region has maintained a higher price level than the rest of the country.
Pork prices are forecast to increase again by the end of the year.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on August 15, a representative of the Dong Nai Livestock Association said that although prices have decreased, the decrease in the past 10 days has not been much, and even tends to be more stable than before.
"The psychology of taking advantage of the epidemic to sell at low prices from farmers still exists, which causes the supply to the market to increase at a certain time, and in the long run, the price of pigs will decrease further. However, the price at the end of the year may increase, due to the sharp decrease in pig supply due to the previous epidemic," he assessed.
