On November 15, the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association reported that according to the White House website, US President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order amending the scope of reciprocal tariffs issued on April 2, 2025. Some eligible agricultural products will no longer be subject to this tax, helping to reduce trade pressure between the two countries.
The list of exempted products includes coffee, tea, tropical fruits and juices, cocoa, spices, bananas, citrus fruits, tomatoes and beef. The new regulation takes effect from November 13 (US time), opening up opportunities for exporters to enter the US market, especially items in the spice and tropical agricultural products group.
For Vietnam, a country with strengths in pepper and spices, the exemption from reciprocal tariffs helps improve competitiveness and regain market share in the US if businesses meet import standards and product quality. However, businesses must still comply with normal import taxes and food safety and certification requirements.
The association noted that not all agricultural products are exempted. Vietnamese enterprises need to check carefully with US importers and update non-tariff risks such as quarantine, SPS standards, residue assessment or traceability requirements to avoid obstacles when exporting goods.
