Hard

According to the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Hai Phong, the city currently has many agricultural areas with potential for processing, especially deep processing, bringing high economic value to farmers. In the Eastern region, there are areas growing specialties such as Dong Ta guava (Vinh Bao commune), onion and garlic (Hung Thang commune), dragon fruit (An Truong commune) and bananas in Viet Khe and Chan Hung communes... The West is famous for lychee and guava areas in Thanh Ha, Ha Dong, Ha Tay, Ha Nam and Ha Bac communes; melons and watermelons in Gia Loc, Gia Phuc, Truong Tan, Dai Son, Tan Ky, Nguyen Giap, Kim Thanh, An Thanh, Tue Tinh, Thai Tan and Hop Tien communes...

However, compared to the potential, the number of agricultural processing enterprises is still very small. In the East, there are only a few units such as Binh Minh Food Joint Stock Company, Viet Xo Vegetable and Fruit Joint Stock Company. In the West, there are more, with typical enterprises such as Joint Stock Companies: Hai Duong Export Agricultural and Food Processing, Tan Huong Agricultural and Food Processing, Ameii Vietnam; Tai Long Agricultural Processing Company Limited and Nam Hoang Phat Agricultural Cooperative. These units operate in many fields, from processing rice, carrots to dried and frozen vegetables and fruits.

Currently, agricultural processing enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises, still face many difficulties in circulating and consuming products. Director of Thang Thuy Cooperative Cao Thi Hang informed that in recent years, the Cooperative has participated in processing medicinal chrysanthemum products. However, according to her, processing enterprises still face many difficulties in circulating and consuming products. There are times when consumption is favorable, but there are also many times when the market is congested, raw material areas are not fully purchased, damaged products must be discarded, causing great losses to the enterprise.

Many businesses are still struggling to build their brands and expand their markets, especially export markets. In addition, they believe that access to support mechanisms and policies to promote production and develop the processing sector is still fraught with difficulties and not really transparent.

City support, business initiative

Ms. Luong Thi Kiem, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said that Hai Phong has a diverse and rich raw material area, but in reality, the number of processing and cold logistics enterprises is still small and does not have enough capacity to guarantee consumption. The low rate of deep processing and modern preservation is one of the challenges for agricultural development.

However, the city has a distinct advantage in developing modern agriculture because it is the gateway to the sea of the North, a large logistics center. With an inner-city market of more than 4.6 million people, it is both a large consumer market and a "salvation" when exports encounter difficulties. Moreover, the city has many diverse and rich raw material areas, with many famous products, high-quality rice, typical vegetables, etc.

Therefore, the city can support the construction of a cold processing chain that meets international standards, reduces transportation costs and creates conditions for agricultural processing enterprises to expand exports. In the coming period, the city's agricultural sector aims to develop modern, ecological, efficient and sustainable agriculture, associated with green growth, which is an important driving force to help enterprises and production facilities have a stable, quality source of raw materials for processing.

On the business side, in addition to expecting support from the city, they also constantly strive to innovate and improve product quality to meet market demand. Businesses increase their competitiveness, focus on producing products that the market needs and aim for unique and strange products to maintain their position and expand exports.

Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company is a typical example. The main processed product for export is lychee, but it is seasonal. Recently, to build its brand and reputation, the company has researched and developed banana products. General Director Ngo Thi Hong said that banana raw material areas are grown in both the East and West of the city. While many other businesses mainly dry, Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company has invested in researching and processing dried bananas with beautiful designs, combining popular flavors such as chocolate coating, green tea, strawberry... Thanks to that, the product not only sells well domestically but also exports well to many European countries.
