Malaysia maintained ASTA black pepper prices at USD 9,000/ton and ASTA white pepper at USD 11,750/ton. Brazil remained stable at USD 5,850/ton for ASTA 570 black pepper. Vietnam recorded 500g/l black pepper at USD 5,800/ton, 550g/l at USD 5,900/ton, and ASTA white pepper at USD 8,800/ton. The global market is currently in a state of “temporary equilibrium” due to the lack of import demand.
Although pepper prices are at their lowest level in nearly 12 months, recovery prospects are still expected in the third or fourth quarter of 2025, when major markets such as China and the EU increase imports. To take advantage of the opportunity, the Vietnamese pepper industry needs to focus on improving product quality, promoting deep processing and diversifying consumption markets, reducing dependence on traditional partners.
The current price stability reflects oversupply, with ample supplies from major producing countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia and Brazil. Lower demand from the Middle East due to geopolitical tensions, coupled with strict quarantine barriers from the US and EU, is weighing on exports. However, long-term contracts for the 2025–2026 crop year are being negotiated, signaling a positive outlook in the medium term.
Businesses are encouraged to participate in international trade promotion events to find new customers, especially for high-end white pepper products. Farmers need to focus on improving processing and preservation techniques to meet export standards, while avoiding dumping inventory. If new trade agreements are signed in the coming time, the Vietnamese pepper industry could enjoy growth momentum from the end of 2025.
