According to the preliminary report of the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), the first 6 months of 2025 recorded a slight increase in global pepper consumption demand despite a decrease in supply compared to 2024.
Pepper prices remain high, nearly double the same period last year, encouraging many countries to expand their planting areas. However, the supply from these new areas can only be replenished after 2-3 years, failing to resolve the current shortage.
Unlike previous years, this year, farmers in producing countries did not dump their pepper after harvest because high prices provided them with more stable financial resources. This contributed to keeping pepper prices stable and reinforced expectations that prices would continue to remain high in the future.
Although tariffs in the US have a certain impact on transactions, the biggest problem currently facing Vietnam's pepper exports is the lack of specific guidance on the application of the VAT Law. This situation makes it difficult for businesses to declare, slows down the transaction process, and temporarily causes the domestic market to stagnate.
Once tax regulations are clarified, pepper prices are expected to recover thanks to strong demand from the international market. This opens up a positive outlook for the Vietnamese pepper industry in the remaining months of the year.
