The 50th anniversary of national reunification attracted a large number of tourists to Ho Chi Minh City, causing airfares to Ho Chi Minh City to increase significantly.
Ticket prices increase sharply, airlines increase flights
According to Tuoi Tre Online on April 8, airfares on popular routes such as Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City or from the Central and Northern provinces have increased significantly compared to normal days. Travel companies and ticket agents said that the event celebrating the 50th anniversary of national reunification with a series of major activities in Ho Chi Minh City, from parades, fireworks displays to exhibitions and special cultural programs, is the "magnet" attracting visitors from everywhere.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, from Da Nang City, said she will bring her family and two young children to Ho Chi Minh City to watch the celebration. This is a special occasion that she wants her young children to experience and see firsthand the meaningful events.
On short routes such as Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City or Nha Trang - Ho Chi Minh City, ticket prices increased by 20-30%, ranging from 1.2 - 2.5 million VND/one-way ticket depending on the airline and booking time.
For the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City or Vinh - Ho Chi Minh City routes, the increase is even "hotter", from 30-50%, with common prices from 1.8 - 3.5 million VND. In particular, if booked close to the holidays, the price can "go up" higher because tickets are increasingly scarce.
A survey on the websites of major airlines shows a clear difference. Vietjet maintains many flights for sale, with prices ranging from low to high from 1 - 2.5 million VND.

However, promotional tickets have almost "evaporated" during this time. Vietnam Airlines tickets cost from 1.5 to 3.5 million VND. Bamboo Airways is in the middle range from 1.2 to 2.8 million VND, but the number of flights is more limited.
The number of air tickets to Ho Chi Minh City has increased sharply, but supply cannot meet demand.
A representative of an airline revealed that despite increasing flights to meet demand, the number of passengers expected to flock to Ho Chi Minh City during the April 30 holiday this year still far exceeds supply. "Price increases are inevitable during peak periods," he said.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, domestic airlines are expected to have more than 7,500 flights, providing about 1.5 million seats, an average of 685 flights per day - an increase of more than 20% compared to normal days and the same period last year.
In Ho Chi Minh City alone, there were 5,083 flights, an average of 462 flights/day with more than 1 million seats, an increase of 21%. The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route recorded 1,261 flights, an increase of 16% compared to last year. Currently, the booking rate has reached 70-80% on many routes.
Mr. Tran The Dung, general director of Vietluxtour Travel, said the number of customers booking combo tours has increased sharply since the beginning of April, with the pre-booking rate increasing by 50% compared to last year.
At the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival 2025, 40% of customers were interested in cultural - historical tours such as "Saigon Special Forces", "Saigon at night in District 1" or "Old Saigon to present Ho Chi Minh City".
Businesses expect holiday revenue to increase by 25-30%, thanks to the boom in domestic and international tourism, combined with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
Experts recommend that people book tickets now, with more than 3 weeks left until the holiday, to save money and ensure a seat. In addition, choose early morning or late night flights, saving from 200,000 - 500,000 VND compared to peak hours.
