Global oil prices have just ended the trading week with a decrease of more than 1% in both major oil types, extending the two consecutive weeks of decline. Cautious sentiment is covering the market as investors await the official decision from OPEC+ on production policy.
Despite a slight recovery in the middle of the week, this increase was not enough to reverse the general correction trend in the context of many risks surrounding both supply and demand.
According to analysts, this trend continues as the market receives information about the possibility that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC +) will discuss increasing production beyond 411,000 barrels/day in July, at a separate meeting on May 31. Tariff measures are also creating significant pressure, causing oil prices to weaken.
According to JPMorgan, oil prices may fluctuate around $75-80/barrel in the short term, but are likely to fall sharply to $70 or lower by the end of the year if supply exceeds demand. ING believes that OPEC+ will maintain production increases at least until the end of the third quarter to maintain market share.
In addition, data from the US showed that gasoline and distillate inventories continued to fall sharply, a signal that supports prices in the short term, but is not enough to change the broader trend.
