Oil markets continued to be volatile on news of tariff talks and data showing how trade uncertainty and the impact of US tariffs are spreading to the global economy.
“The possibility of further US sanctions on Venezuela, which could limit crude exports, and the risk of Israeli attacks on Iranian infrastructure are additional downside risks to prices. However, weaker oil demand and rising production from both OPEC+ and non-OPEC countries will add further downward pressure on prices in the coming quarters,” analysts at BMI, a Fitch affiliate, wrote in a note on Friday.
Top oil exporter Saudi Arabia cut its July crude prices to Asia to the lowest in nearly two months, a smaller-than-expected cut, after OPEC+ agreed to boost output by 411,000 barrels per day in July.
The kingdom has previously pushed for a sharper output increase, part of a strategy to regain market share and tighten discipline on overproducing members of the OPEC+ group, which includes OPEC countries and allies such as Russia.
“We estimate the market will balance in Q2 and Q3 as oil demand picks up in the summer and peaks in July-August, coinciding with OPEC+ production increases. The subsequent OPEC+ production increase could leave the market more oversupplied than previously expected in Q4 2025,” HSBC said in a report.
