On the morning of June 8, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training organized an announcement on the results of the entrance exam for non-specialized public grade 10 schools in the area for the 2025-2026 school year.
At the information session, VietNamNet asked whether the Literature exam this year was considered good and escaped the orientation of model essays, so the marking process could ensure "standard" marking and fairness for candidates.
Regarding this, Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that one of the notable new points in this year's 10th grade entrance exam is the adjustment of the method of calculating admission scores. Instead of multiplying the coefficient by 2 for Math and Literature as in previous years; in 2025, the admission score will be the total score of 3 subjects (Math, Literature, Foreign Language), each subject is calculated on a 10-point scale and does not multiply the coefficient. This calculation method aims to ensure fairness between subjects, encouraging students to study all subjects equally.
“Regarding the marking of exams, this is also the responsibility of the education and training sector; the responsibility and conscience of teachers. There is no phenomenon of 'loose marking' or 'tight marking' or marking based on emotions. We all have cameras during the marking process. After marking, we will randomly select some papers to re-mark based on probability, and also cross-mark. The marking council of the Department of Education and Training must bring the most fairness to students,” Mr. Cuong affirmed.

Ms. Nguyen Nguyet Nga, a Literature teacher at Viet Duc High School, said that the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has also provided very specific and detailed instructions on grading, so candidates and parents do not need to worry about "expensive or cheap grading".
According to Ms. Nga, the grading scale has an index measuring the knowledge requirements at each level, corresponding to how many points are received.
“Accordingly, the requirements for expression and classification are very clear. For example, when writing a paragraph about the joy of school life, which is a simple thing, but writing about that simple thing in a profound way is not something that every student can write. Therefore, students do not need to worry. Good students with good expression and writing style will definitely have higher scores,” Ms. Nga said.
According to Ms. Nga, especially in the 10th grade entrance exam, students only need to have a difference of 0.25 points to be able to affect whether they pass or fail. Therefore, teachers who mark the exam will always be careful. Not to mention, there is also a cross-checking stage between the first and second examiners.
Mr. Cuong also said that this year, according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the announcement of 10th grade exam results and admission scores to schools must be at the same time.
According to the plan of the Department of Education and Training, from June 9 to June 22, the Examination Council of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will mark multiple-choice tests. From June 11 to June 22, the Council will mark essay tests.
From July 4 to July 6, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will announce the test scores of candidates on the Department's electronic information portal and the city's primary admission portal. Also during this period, the Department will announce the benchmark scores of schools.
After 2 days with 3 exams in Literature, Foreign Language and Math, many teachers commented that Hanoi's exam this year had more fresh and positive features than previous years. In Literature, Hanoi's 10th grade exam this year was evaluated by teachers and parents as good, eliminating the orientation of model essays. Meanwhile, the English exam was commented to still ensure differentiation but limit the candidates' "cramming - using tricks" to be able to solve some questions. The Math exam was commented by teachers to focus more on real-life problems, not to puzzle but still classify students very well.
