Workshop to gather opinions on students not using phones in school
Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that in the new school year, Ho Chi Minh City will implement a regulation that students will not use phones in school. Phones can only be used during class hours when teachers allow them according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. If students need to use phones, the school must ensure a free communication channel for students.
Accordingly, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will organize a workshop to collect opinions from experts and parents about students not using phones in schools, analyzing the effectiveness and benefits of this regulation. In the 2024-2025 school year, many schools have implemented not allowing students to use phones in schools, but there is no uniformity and no absolute support from parents.
Mr. Hieu added: "The city has implemented the happy school program for the third year, but during recess, each student has a corner and uses their phone, which will 'break' the relationship between students and between students and teachers. I hope that during recess, students will be comfortable and have fun to recharge their positive energy for the new lesson, not that each student is in a separate world . The habit of using the phone is a big obstacle for students to interact with relatives, teachers, and friends."
Students dare not go to the toilet, the principal does not complete his duties.
At the same time, the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City requested that schools review school safety conditions, focus on repairing unsafe items for students, and pay attention to school toilets to prepare the best conditions for students in the new school year.
"If the school's students do not dare to enter the restroom, the principal has not fulfilled his duty. The principal must review his capacity and responsibility towards the students. The school should coordinate with parents to monitor and ensure clean restrooms for students," the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training emphasized.

Teaching is not for exams
One of the contents of the new school year's implementation that the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City emphasized is that teaching must bring excitement to students. This is the "backbone", the main goal of education , creating the quality of education. The quality of education comes from teachers and schools. Therefore, each teacher and school board must focus on innovating teaching methods. No longer in the direction of cramming knowledge into students, but the formation of knowledge and capacity for students must be through practice and self-study.
"The teaching process must definitely research and innovate methods, aiming at the interests of students. It is not teaching for exams. A good student with high scores but not good at communication, not good at sports ... is not acceptable," Mr. Hieu emphasized.
To prepare for the special opening ceremony, the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requested that principals be proactive and ensure that students have space to participate in the opening ceremony. Schools that do not have televisions, roofs, or conditions to organize special opening ceremonies need support from local authorities.
