Hanoi's education sector maintains its leading position nationwide.

Looking back over the past 70 years, the education and training sector in Hanoi has made remarkable progress. Significant breakthroughs have been achieved in the development of education and training and the improvement of human resource quality. Hanoi continues to lead the country in terms of scale, school network, quality of advanced education, and the number of students winning high awards in national and international student competitions.

To date, Hanoi has 2,913 preschools and primary and secondary schools (an increase of 39 schools compared to 2023), one training school for education officials, and 29 vocational and continuing education centers with 70,200 classes. The city has nearly 2.3 million students and 130,000 teachers.

As of the end of August 2024, the percentage of schools meeting national standards across the city reached 64.5%, including 55.4% of preschools; 72.8% of primary schools; 81% of lower secondary schools; and 37.1% of upper secondary schools.

Hanoi has achieved universal preschool education for 5-year-olds, level 3 universal primary education, and level 2 universal lower secondary education ahead of schedule. The quality of mass education remains stable, with the percentage of high school graduates and average entrance exam scores for universities and colleges consistently ranking among the top in the country. In the 2023 high school graduation exam, Hanoi improved its ranking by 10 places compared to 2022. Many students from schools in suburban areas have achieved outstanding results in the exams.

The quality of "top-tier" education is constantly improving. For many years, Hanoi has maintained its leading position nationwide in national and international student competitions. The number of high school students winning national awards is the highest among all localities, further enhancing the capital's educational achievements with continuous wins in annual international competitions such as: Science and Technology Innovation Competitions, Young Scientists Competitions, and cultural subjects…

Educational management, teaching, enrollment, examinations, and assessments have undergone many innovations, focusing on increased application of information technology and digital transformation. Educational infrastructure and facilities serving teaching and learning have received concentrated investment and are equipped with a fairly comprehensive and modern system. The appearance of schools is constantly changing, narrowing the gap in facilities between schools throughout the city.
