Looking back over the past 70 years, the Capital'sEducation and Training sector has made great strides. To date, Hanoi has 2,913 kindergartens and primary schools of all levels (an increase of 39 schools compared to 2023), one Education Staff Training School and 29 vocational and continuing education centers with 70,200 classrooms. The city has nearly 2.3 million students and 130,000 teachers.
By the end of August 2024, the rate of schools meeting national standards in the whole city reached 64.5%, of which the rate of kindergartens meeting standards was 55.4%; the rate of primary schools meeting standards was 72.8%; this rate at the junior high school level was 81%; and high school level was 37.1%.

Hanoi has achieved universal preschool education for 5-year-old children, universal primary education level 3, and universal secondary education level 2 earlier than the set target. The quality of mass education is always stable with the rate of high school graduates and the average scores of university and college entrance exams always ranking among the top in the country every year. In the 2023 high school graduation exam, Hanoi increased 10 places compared to 2022. Many students in suburban schools have achieved excellent results in the exams.
The quality of "key" education is increasingly improving. For many years, Hanoi has maintained its leading position in the country in national and international competitions for excellent students. The number of high school students winning national prizes is the highest among localities, adding to the golden board of educational achievements of the capital when continuously winning prizes in annual international competitions such as: Science and Technology Innovation Competition, Young Science Competition, cultural subjects, etc.
There have been many innovations in education management, teaching, enrollment, testing, and evaluation, with increased application of information technology and digital transformation. Education infrastructure and facilities for teaching and learning have been invested in and equipped in a fairly synchronous and modern manner. The appearance of schools has changed, narrowing the gap in facilities between schools in the city.
Professor, Dr. Nguyen Mai, Chairman of the Association of Foreign Investment Enterprises, said that Hanoi has many advantages, being an economic, educational, scientific and technological center; at the same time, there are many universities with an increasing number of professors and leading experts in science and technology. This is the potential and outstanding advantage of the capital, creating a strong driving force for development.
