On November 25, within the framework of the Presidium meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, was honored to receive the title of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences from Professor, Academician Gennedy Kraniskov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh was elected as an Academician by the Russian Academy of Sciences - the world's leading scientific center with more than 300 years of history - during the plenary session on May 29-30, 2025. Founded in 1724, the Russian Academy of Sciences is one of the largest and most prestigious academic centers in the world, gathering nearly 2,000 academicians and a network of hundreds of research institutes across the Russian Federation, which has produced many Nobel Prize-winning scientists and created breakthroughs in the fields of natural sciences and technology.

With this event, Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh became the fourth Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, after Professor, Academician Tran Dai Nghia; Professor, Academician Nguyen Van Hieu and Professor, Academician Dang Vu Minh. Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh is also an Academician of three international academic organizations: the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences and the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS).

Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh is a leading expert in the field of biochemistry of natural compounds, with nearly 500 scientific works, publishing more than 40 inventions and useful solutions. As President of the Academy since 2008, he has led the implementation of many key national science and technology programs such as the Central Highlands Program 3, the program to develop Vietnam's Earth observation satellite, the system of national nature museums, the project to develop the Vietnam-France International Public University (USTH), etc.

In particular, Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh has made many important contributions to the development of Vietnam-Russia scientific cooperation, especially in basic research and human resource training. He has promoted the construction and implementation of maritime cooperation roadmaps between the two Vietnamese-Russian Academies, directed the organization of joint survey trips by Russian scientific research vessels "Academician Oparin" and "Academician Lavrentiev" in the East Sea of ​​Vietnam, cooperated in research and human resource training in the field of nuclear physics at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Dubna (JINR), and developed interdisciplinary research programs on new materials, pharmaceutical chemistry-biotechnology, nuclear physics, space technology, etc. with many Russian research institutes and universities.

These efforts contribute to consolidating the fundamental research foundation of the Academy in particular and Vietnam in general, training a team of highly qualified scientists and deepening the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Based on the positive contributions to promoting high-quality scientific and technological research and training cooperation between Vietnam and Russia, the Council of the Union of Educational and Scientific Organizations of the Russian Federation has chosen Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh as the "Russian Ambassador of Education and Science".

The election of the President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology as an Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences is not only a worthy recognition for an outstanding scientist, but also a source of pride for the Vietnamese scientific community. This is a clear demonstration of the increasingly deep development and integration of Vietnamese science, while opening up new opportunities to strengthen research and training cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation in the coming period.
