On September 22, Allkpop reported that "SNL Korea 4" received fierce criticism from the public. In the video clip posted on YouTube, the program created a fictional live news report. A girl was introduced as a rookie reporter from Vietnam named Aung Wei, connecting with an MC at the studio.

The Vietnamese female reporter character was played by an actress from "SNL Korea 4". She started off as a "Vietnamese woman speaking Korean with a foreign accent", starting with a confident introduction and ending with a childlike smile. The MC at the studio commented that she was cute and the show even included illustrative laughter when the actress played the Vietnamese woman speaking Korean.

However, the show was soon heavily criticized by the public for being racist. They commented: "Is this a clip from 2003? It's so outdated!"; "Do comedy shows today not know how to create content without demeaning others? Maybe that's why comedy shows are being canceled";…

Others said the show was attacking minorities. They were outraged: "The whole theme of this season is to make fun of minorities"; "I'm embarrassed that no staff thought to speak up and stop this segment from airing"; "At this point, with all the problems this show has, it should be canceled"; "Making a foreign girl look innocent and childish, even as a Korean, I feel offended"; "No matter how you look at it from a humorous angle, this is blatant racism"; "I can't believe this is still happening in 2023"…

Meanwhile, Coupang Play's "SNL Korea 4" ended earlier this month on September 16. It is unclear whether these controversies will affect the next season. Coupang Play has not commented on the incident.
