Talking to Tran Tung Anh (born in 1995), many people found it strange when they heard him sing because in Vietnam, it is rare for someone to be able to sing both male and female voices at the same time. However, in that potential voice, there are still some elements missing to make the performance more sublime, more emotional, more convincing.
But recently listening to him sing in some shows, I suddenly realized that his voice has become more experienced, emotional and smooth.
Tung Anh shared with Tuoi Tre that after the glamour of the game show as well as the two words "temporary phenomenon", the past eight years have been a bumpy journey. He was often uncertain, doubted himself, faced prejudice and invisible pressures when pursuing a different path.
Both a gift and a challenge
While humming at home in middle school, Tung Anh imitated a female singer's voice for fun, unexpectedly getting the right tone and voice color.
His mother was surprised: "Why do you look like a girl?". "Both surprised and delighted, from then on I started practicing seriously, figuring out how to control my voice and change my voice," he said.
When he was young, Tung Anh never thought he would grow up to be a professional singer. Music came to him as a destiny, a joy, a means to express emotions. However, the older he got, the more the artist realized that he loved music more than anything else.
"The first stages, the encouragement from teachers, friends and audiences led me to a serious artistic path," he said.
Tran Tung Anh said being called a "phenomenon" for singing two voices is both a gift and a challenge.
He "always has to strive to overcome the label of 'phenomenon' to affirm that Tung Anh is a true artist, with technique, courage and his own path".
In the song From Then (Phan Manh Quynh) that Tung Anh once sang, there is a line: "And my soul from then on is a clear song.../ In the song we walk freely". Is the musical path that Tung Anh is walking on as beautiful as the lyrics of that song?
Tung Anh confided that "From then on " is not only beautiful in melody but also its lyrics touch the emotions of a young person taking the first steps on the great journey of life. When singing the line "And my soul from then on is a clear song", he seemed to be telling his own story, from someone who sang by instinct to truly living fully with music.
The road we are on may not be really "broad" but each step carries with it many memories and many lessons. There are parts as bright as the sun, there are parts as quiet but looking back, I feel no regret.
"Because I have gone with passion, perseverance and unconditional love," he confided, "if I can maintain the purity and emotion of that first love, any artistic path will eventually become meaningful, even if it is slow but beautiful."

Music has no barriers
There is one special thing, most of the songs that Tran Tung Anh has performed have the theme of parents, homeland, and country. "Choice comes from the heart", Tung Anh sings about parents, not only expressing gratitude, but also reminding himself to always live a kind life, with roots.
Songs with folk melodies, homeland lyricism or imbued with the breath of the country help this young singer connect more deeply with the audience. Not only through melody but also through community memories, through sacred feelings that everyone has.
"The themes of parents, family, homeland, and country are associated with identity and responsibility. I want my singing to bring pride and love to the listeners no matter what stage I'm on," he said.

Not long ago, Tran Tung Anh participated in singing in the program 50 years of the Country full of joy, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification. He was also invited to sing at the ceremony welcoming the Thai Prime Minister to Vietnam.
It is a great honor for any artist; at the same time, he increasingly feels the responsibility of an artist to use his voice to tell the story of the country, culture and people of Vietnam.
Tung Anh shared that after those events he realized: music has no barriers if expressed with sincerity. To him, that is the greatest reward.
Coming out of The Voice 2017, Tran Tung Anh is known as a rare "phenomenon" in the Vietnamese music industry for possessing a genderless voice. A year later, Tran Tung Anh decided to move to the South and participate in Tuyet Dinh Song Ca, Guong Mat Than Quen 2019...
He then returned to the North to pursue musical activities. In addition to singing and performing, Tung Anh is studying at the Hanoi University of Culture, and is also studying vocal music with Meritorious Artist Lan Anh - a lecturer at the Vietnam National Academy of Music - to practice technique, process properly and maintain vocal health.
He released the album "Singing Mountain" (2023), won the Thanh Am award at the international finals of the Qingyin Award - Youth Music Festival 2024 organized by one of China's leading music conservatories, the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music.
