Deputy Head of the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Tran Thi Thuy Lan spoke at the opening ceremony.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Tran Thi Thuy Lan said: Vietnamese handicrafts have a long tradition. Craft villages in the Northern Delta are closely associated with Hanoi's Old Quarter, expressed through craft villages, craft streets, unique, sophisticated and perfect products. Thang Long - Hanoi is the convergence of hundreds of crafts that create thirty-six streets, with the famous "Hang" streets of the capital. Hoan Kiem District - Hanoi's Old Quarter is the area of 36 ancient streets - where many craft streets are concentrated with communal houses worshiping the ancestors of the craft that still exist today, this is the characteristic of Hanoi's Old Quarter.
Recreating the space of a traditional oriental medicine practitioner's family
"Thereby, with the desire to preserve and develop traditional crafts, maintain customs and traditions, and traditional cultural beauty of the Old Quarter in particular and the capital Hanoi in general, we have organized this series of events, focusing on introducing the traditional medicine profession at Lan Ong craft street. Through the event, we hope to attract many domestic and foreign tourists to participate, creating many attractive tourist destinations in Hoan Kiem District, as well as contributing to the overall development of the tourism industry of the capital Hanoi" - Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Lan said.
Display and introduce medicinal plants and oriental medicine products
The Oriental medicine profession in Lan Ong street is not only famous for its professional techniques and diverse treatment methods, but the value of the profession is also demonstrated through the medical teachings left by our ancestors, such as Hai Thuong Lan Ong with his humanistic ideology of "living for everyone", the spirit of "lifelong learning" and the medical teachings on the 8 things a good physician should do: "Humanity - Virtue - Humility - Wisdom - Sincerity - Diligence" or "Southern medicine to treat Southern people" by Zen master Tue Tinh.
In 2014 - 2015, the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District implemented a project to restore and improve Lan Ong Street to preserve and promote the value of the traditional craft street in Hanoi's Old Quarter. Since then, Lan Ong Street has not only been a place specializing in selling traditional oriental medicine but also a place to introduce traditional medicine and traditional oriental medicine products. This is also one of the attractive destinations for the people of the capital and domestic and foreign tourists.
