Huong Thuy Town Party Secretary Le Ngoc Son gives funding to demolish temporary houses for households in Duong Hoa

Settling in and settling down

Mr. Nguyen Duoc’s household in Thuy Chau Ward is one of the most disadvantaged households in the ward. Mr. Duoc’s wife, Ms. Do Thi Man, is the daughter of a martyr. Both husband and wife are old and weak, no longer able to work, and live mainly on social assistance and help from the community.

For a long time, Mr. Duoc and his wife have lived in a 65m2 level 4 house that has almost completely deteriorated. Every rainy season, the local government comes to help the couple evacuate to a safe place.

Faced with that situation, the "Fund for the Poor" of Huong Thuy Town supported 20 million VND, the Women's Union of the town supported 20 million VND, the "Fund for the Poor" of Thuy Chau Ward supported 5 million VND to repair the house for Mr. Duoc and his wife. Along with the support sources, Thuy Chau Ward and Residential Group 9 of the ward actively mobilized people to contribute working days, support construction materials and necessities to serve the house repair process for Mr. Duoc with a total cost of 60 million VND.

Also in Thuy Chau ward, there are two sisters, Ms. Cao Thi Hong, both over 80 years old, whose lives mainly depend on social assistance and help from neighbors. After reviewing and evaluating, the local government included Ms. Hong's family in the list of households eligible for housing repair and upgrade. Up to now, her house has been basically repaired. Ms. Hong confided: "Thanks to the attention and support of the State and the help of neighbors, my family has the conditions to repair the house."

Strive to complete before May 30

After checking, in Huong Thuy town, there are currently 10 households eligible for support to eliminate NT, NDN, concentrated in Thuy Phu commune with 3 households, Thuy Chau ward with 2 households, Thuy Phuong ward with 3 households, Thuy Thanh commune with 1 household and Duong Hoa commune with 1 household. These households are all poor, near-poor, in difficult circumstances, and have contributed to the revolution. Currently, 5 houses have started construction and repair, expected to be completed before May 30 and the remaining 5 houses will also start construction this May.

Vice Chairwoman of Huong Thuy Town People's Committee, Ms. Ngo Thi Ai Huong shared: The program to eliminate NT and NDN in Huong Thuy Town has been bringing positive changes to dozens of poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households. Each newly built or repaired house not only helps people have a stable place to live but also motivates them to improve their lives.

The great advantage of the program to launch the program to eliminate NT, NDN is that it demonstrates the profound humanity, the spirit of "mutual love" that is of interest to the people, and is responded and supported by philanthropists, businesses and organizations. However, the implementation process still faces certain difficulties that affect the progress of eliminating NT, NDN in the town. That is, some households are living in NT, NDN but have not been granted land use right certificates, are living on the land of their parents, siblings and have not transferred their names, transferred or made inheritance records... Currently, the source of funding to build houses for people with meritorious services has not been allocated to the locality, so the implementation of building houses for this group is still slow. Meanwhile, the source of funding mobilized from organizations and individuals is still limited. Many households do not have labor resources so they depend on the support of local authorities and organizations.

Ms. Ngo Thi Ai Huong informed: The town has also requested communes, wards, and departments to resolve related administrative procedures, actively urge and inspect the construction progress of households supported to build and remove NT, NDN, ensuring the construction process is safe and on schedule. At the same time, continue to connect and mobilize all resources to support households in building houses; propagate and disseminate policies so that people clearly understand the support policy for people with meritorious services to the revolution, relatives of martyrs on housing, and the policy to remove NT, NDN for people. Particularly in this period, Huong Thuy town urgently contacted and worked with businesses and units to receive a budget of 200 million VND to support people to remove NT, NDN. Strive to complete the program to remove NT, NDN in the town before May 30.
