Xuan Loc Forest Protection Management Board is a pioneer in sustainable forest management according to FSC standards in Dong Nai province.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Cong, Deputy Director of Xuan Loc Protection Forest Management Board, said that, implementing the Project on sustainable forest management and forest certification according to Decision 1288 of 2018 of the Prime Minister and Circular 28 of 2018 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) regulating sustainable forest management, over the past many years, the Board has prepared to implement all conditions to prepare documents to be granted forest certification and sustainable management.

With the attention and introduction of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Nai, now the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai, since 2022, the Xuan Loc Protection Forest Management Board and Tan Vinh Cuu Company have joined together to carry out all necessary work and prepare documents to obtain FSC certification. After 2 years of implementation, in February 2024, the Board was officially granted FSC-FM certification for planted forests.
Up to now, in the forest area managed by Xuan Loc Protective Forest Management Board, 3,600 hectares of planted forest have been granted FSC certification.
Being granted FSC certification brings many benefits, first of all it increases the economic value of planted forests. Previously, not only the forests directly managed by the Management Board but also the forest areas that were contracted to people for planting, because there was no FSC certification, the selling price of wood was often lower than the market price.
When the Board had FSC forest certification, it attracted the attention of many wood processing enterprises in and outside the province that wanted to produce wood for export to developed countries, because in developed countries such as Europe, Japan and the US, people pay a lot of attention to sustainable forest management. Enterprises are buying FSC-certified planted forest wood from Xuan Loc Protective Forest Management Board at prices 5 to about 10% higher than forests without FSC certification.
FSC certification also enhances forest value by creating opportunities for Xuan Loc Forest Protection Management Board to prepare to participate in the carbon credit market.

Regarding sustainable forest management, through the implementation of FSC standards, Xuan Loc Forest Protection Management Board has improved the capacity of officials and employees of Xuan Loc Forest Protection Management Board in management, stricter compliance with legal regulations, and forest exploitation and planting processes, ensuring a more sustainable direction.
Implementing sustainable forest management according to FSC standards also raises awareness among contracted households, especially ethnic minority households.
Previously, although the Xuan Loc Forest Protection Management Board regularly disseminated information to contracted households about forest management and development, with requirements to comply with legal regulations and to comply with requirements on sustainable forest development. However, people still followed their own customs.
Through training courses to participate in FSC certification, the contracted people have raised awareness in forest care and protection to ensure sustainable requirements. For example, how to use chemicals to ensure environmental hygiene, not cause environmental pollution and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
