To celebrate the 79th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2024), on the morning of September 2, Google replaced the profile picture on the homepage with a doodle featuring the image of a red flag with a five-pointed yellow star fluttering in the blue sky and white clouds.
When clicking on the Google Doodle icon, users will be redirected to a page summarizing information about National Day September 2, along with fireworks in red and yellow and the Vietnamese national flag.

For special anniversaries, Google often changes the homepage's profile picture to a doodle containing a message that reminds of the event.
The information on Google said: “Today's Doodle celebrates Vietnam's National Day! On this day in 1945, thousands of people gathered at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi to hear the President read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam” (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam).
According to Google, National Day September 2 is an occasion for Vietnamese people to honor the contributions and sacrifices of previous generations to gain independence and freedom for the nation, and at the same time is a reminder for today's generation to continue to inherit and continue the legacy of their ancestors.
On this important occasion, people often gather to participate in cultural activities and immerse themselves in the bustling, joyful atmosphere of music, dance and art performances held across the country.
“Many people also visit historical sites such as Hanoi’s Old Quarter and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, which is decorated with the Vietnamese national flag with a red flag and a yellow star – just like the flag in today’s artwork,” Google added, mentioning some traditional Vietnamese dishes that are loved by many people such as pho, banh mi, bun bo Hue…
Google ends the description with congratulations on Vietnam National Day.
