- In recent years, the provincialeducation sector has actively implemented activities to promote learning, reading, and spread the culture of sharing in schools. One of the highlights of these activities is the Festival to donate textbooks and reference books to disadvantaged primary school students and school libraries in remote areas. The movement not only contributes to creating learning conditions for students in disadvantaged areas, but also arouses the awareness of saving and sharing in the community.
Meritorious teacher Duong Hong Minh, Head of the Preschool - Primary Education Department, Department of Education and Training of the province, said: Book donation activities are carried out at the primary level every year with the goal of both having social significance and educating students about compassion and caring for those around them. At the same time, this is also an effective form of practicing thrift and fighting waste in schools. From that orientation, the department has advised the department's leaders to issue an annual plan, directing 100% of primary education institutions in the province to organize the donation of old textbooks that are still usable and other reference books to support disadvantaged students, while enriching the book sources for school libraries.
In the past two school years alone, the movement has been implemented synchronously in 244/244 primary schools across the province. It is recorded that from the 2023-2024 school year up to now, primary schools in the whole sector have mobilized to donate 2,070 sets of textbooks for all subjects and more than 25,000 individual books of all kinds, including textbooks, story books, and reference books. After being reviewed and classified, these books were delivered to students in difficult circumstances or added to the libraries of schools in mountainous and border areas, contributing to practical support for teaching and learning.
In Loc Binh district, there are currently 192 primary school classes in extremely disadvantaged communes, with more than 3,300 students needing support with textbooks. Understanding that reality, the district Department of Education and Training has proactively directed primary schools to launch a donation movement. From 2024 to present, the whole sector has mobilized more than 4,000 books of all kinds and 160 sets of textbooks. All were carefully selected, given to poor students and supplemented to the libraries of primary schools lacking books. This result is a clear demonstration of the consensus and responsibility of the staff, teachers and students in the area.
In Trang Dinh district, the spirit of sharing has also spread strongly through practical donation programs. On May 22, the district Department of Education and Training coordinated with Khanh Hoa Primary School, Quoc Khanh commune to organize a ceremony to launch a donation of textbooks for students in difficult circumstances. At the event, the school's staff, teachers and students donated more than 600 old textbooks that were still in good condition. At the same time, the district Department of Education and Training also directly donated 5 new sets of textbooks to disadvantaged students. Speaking at the launching ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dao, Deputy Head of the district Department of Education and Training emphasized: "The book donation activity not only demonstrates the spirit of mutual love but also contributes to educating the awareness of saving and protecting book resources for students from a young age."
Not only in disadvantaged areas, in Lang Son city, where learning conditions are more favorable, the book donation movement is also maintained regularly. For example, Chi Lang Primary School is a typical unit that has organized this activity continuously for the past three years. At the end of the school year, the school launched the movement among all students and parents. Classes will collect old textbooks, select new ones, not torn, not written on to create complete sets of books. On average, each year, the school donates and packages about 500 sets of books, of which a part is given directly to disadvantaged students at the school, the rest is sent to the City Department of Education and Training to distribute to other schools. Tran Hai Bich, a student of class 5A7, shared: "I participate in supporting every year. I find this activity very meaningful." A simple sharing, but shows the positive impact of the movement in forming personality and positive attitudes for students.
It can be affirmed that the book donation movement has become a profound activity with sustainable influence throughout the province's education sector, especially at the primary level. The activity not only brings practical benefits to students in disadvantaged areas, but also contributes to building a humane, thrifty and responsible school environment, sowing a beautiful seed in the hearts of each student: sharing.
Entering the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, with the existing results, the provincial education sector will continue to maintain and improve the effectiveness of this movement. With the support of the community, philanthropists, businesses and parents, the "humanitarian journey" from the pages of books will continue to be extended, contributing to enriching the knowledge of children in the mountainous areas of Lang Son.
