After more than two months of construction, the first dam project on the To Lich River is gradually taking shape at Quang Bridge area (Thanh Tri district, Hanoi ).
Hanoi is implementing synchronous solutions to improve the environment of the To Lich River, focusing on building a dam system to help retain water and regulate the flow. The first project is being carried out at Quang Bridge (Thanh Liet Commune, Thanh Tri District) in an effort to revive the capital's vital river.
The project is part of a program to improve the living environment, natural ecosystem and sanitation conditions in central urban areas in the To Lich River basin, the left bank of the Nhue River and the Lu River basin. Over the past two months, the construction team has mobilized equipment, machinery and dozens of workers to work continuously to speed up the progress and bring the project to the finish line on schedule.
According to VTC News, at Quang Bridge area, the first dam of To Lich River is gradually taking shape after many weeks of urgent construction. Inside the dam, water has been drained to make the foundation.
Items such as concrete floors, dam structures and surrounding walls are being completed step by step.
Under the river, workers rushed to build beams and install fixed frames to ensure the stability of the project during operation.
In addition, a 5 meter wide gap is also left to ensure flow during construction and later operation.
Quang Bridge Dam is one of three dams that Hanoi plans to build along the To Lich River. The other two locations are Cot Bridge (Yen Hoa Ward, Cau Giay District) and Dau Bridge (Linh Dam Area, Hoang Mai District).
The weir system not only has the technical function of retaining water and regulating the flow, but also creates an ecological landscape, contributes to preventing summer drought and supports drainage in the rainy season, helping to reduce the risk of flooding in the central area.
Along with the construction of the dam, dredging work on the entire To Lich River is also being vigorously implemented. Dozens of workers from the Hanoi Drainage Company Limited are on duty at the riverbed to operate the sludge suction equipment day and night.
The total length of the dredging route is about 13.8 km, from the intersection of Hoang Quoc Viet Street - Buoi Street to National Highway 70. The entire work is expected to be basically completed in August.
After completing the dredging, Hanoi will distribute clean water from West Lake and the Red River to the To Lich River through a pipeline system of more than 5km long. This system, with an investment of about 550 billion VND, runs underground from the Red River through Vo Chi Cong Street, flowing to the To Lich source area at the Hoang Quoc Viet - Buoi intersection. The addition of clean water will help improve the flow and quality of the water, significantly supporting the revival of the underwater ecosystem.
To Lich River has long been considered the main drainage axis, playing a role in regulating water levels and preventing flooding in Hanoi's inner city. However, over the years, the river has had to endure about 160,000m³ of domestic wastewater every day from more than 300 discharge sewers. Prolonged pollution has made the river almost lifeless, becoming one of the capital's environmental "black spots". |
