Class of Love

Following President Ho Chi Minh's example of continuous striving in learning, the Hoa Tien Commune Youth Union (Hoa Vang District) collaborated with schools to organize "Classes of Love" to support and assist underperforming students and those facing difficulties in their studies. This helps them consolidate their knowledge and confidently excel in their learning.

After the end of the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year, an assessment of the learning outcomes in the schools revealed that many students were lagging behind, facing learning difficulties, and had not completed the two subjects of Mathematics and Vietnamese Language at the primary school level; and the three subjects of Mathematics, Literature, and English at the secondary school level. In response to this situation, in February 2025, the Hoa Tien Commune Youth Union, in coordination with the school principals, launched the "Class of Love" program.

According to Le Van Luu, Secretary of the Hoa Tien Commune Youth Union, the classes are held at three schools in the commune: Nguyen Phu Huong Secondary School, Hoa Tien Primary School No. 1, and Hoa Tien Primary School No. 2. A total of 139 students participate, including 56 primary school students and 83 secondary school students. The volunteer instructors include 24 teachers who are members of the Youth Union branches, homeroom teachers, and subject teachers. Primary school students attend 3 lessons per session per week; secondary school students attend 4 lessons per session per week.

The curriculum includes weekly review of subject knowledge and tutoring in areas where students are lacking or weak; review of end-of-semester 2 knowledge; and equipping students with missing or underdeveloped study skills, especially in English. To balance regular teaching time with tutoring in the "love class," teachers must use breaks and free periods to participate in teaching and supporting students.

Initially, organizing the classes presented many challenges. Students came from different classes, requiring teachers to spend considerable time communicating with homeroom teachers to understand each student's learning progress. Students' abilities were uneven, but teachers could only develop a general curriculum, making remedial instruction difficult. Students had gaps in their knowledge across many areas and years; their memory and concentration skills were also lacking. However, through dedication, enthusiasm, patience, and the use of engaging teaching methods, teachers were able to captivate students and improve the effectiveness of the lessons.

After implementation, the "Class of Love" program achieved many positive results. Students attended classes regularly, maintained relatively good study habits, and enthusiastically participated in class activities. As a result, in the end-of-semester 2 Math and Vietnamese language exams, 56 out of 56 students at Hoa Tien No. 1 Primary School met the requirements to complete the subjects, achieving a 100% promotion rate. At Hoa Tien No. 2 Primary School, the percentage of students completing the subjects was quite high. At Nguyen Phu Huong Secondary School, the results of the mid-semester 2 exams in Literature, Math, and English for grades 6 and 7 improved compared to before.

To further encourage students, the People's Committee of Hoa Tien commune recently presented 30 gifts, including cash and notebooks, to students who have shown great effort in their studies. This demonstrates the local government's concern and encouragement for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, motivating them to continue striving for academic excellence.

According to Ms. Ho Thi Lai, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Tien commune, after the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the "Class of Love" will continue to be implemented in residential youth branches during the summer to support students in reviewing and supplementing their knowledge for summer activities in the locality. In addition, she requested that associations, organizations, and schools continue to create conditions to maintain the class in subsequent school years to accompany and support students in their studies. Through this, love will be continuously spread and the spirit of learning will be multiplied among all students, contributing to improving the quality of education in the commune.
