At around 5:30 p.m., a fire broke out at the stern of the Tung Duong and quickly engulfed the entire ship. The five crew members on board tried to put out the fire, but were unsuccessful and had to jump into the sea.

Five crew members swam to another ship parked nearby and were rescued.

The Fire Prevention and Rescue Force of Quang Ninh Province Police dispatched two speedboats to pull the Tung Duong away from the pier, away from other vehicles, and focused on extinguishing the fire. As of 7 p.m., the fire had not been extinguished.

The burnt passenger ship on the Van Don - Quan Lan route with 132 seats, was purchased only one month ago for 5 billion VND.
