In recent years, Son La Taekwondo has achieved many remarkable achievements, gradually affirming its position in national and regional arenas. One of the typical faces is athlete Ca Van Hiep.

At the Son La Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, the Son La Taekwondo athletes are practicing to prepare for the upcoming tournament. Athlete Ca Van Hiep shares about his chance to join the Taekwondo team: I was born and raised in a Thai ethnic family in Muong Trai commune, Muong La district. In 2009, to resettle people for the construction of the Son La Hydropower Plant, my family moved to a new place in Muong Lum commune, Yen Chau district. In 2011, when I participated in the Phu Dong Sports Festival in Yen Chau district, I was fortunate to be selected by the teachers in the Taekwondo team and brought to the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center.

Entering training, Hiep was assessed to have a great talent for Taekwondo. In addition to studying, Hiep spent most of his time practicing, not only completing the amount of exercises according to the teacher's lesson plan, but also doing supplementary exercises, studying high-level matches to improve his techniques and tactics.

With the advantage of a height of 1.81m, Ca Van Hiep often competes in the weight categories of 80, 87 and over 87kg. With the determination to "persist, practice hard, and strive for high achievements", Hiep has continuously achieved success in his career. Notably, he won the Gold Medal at the National Taekwondo Championship in 2017; Silver Medal at the National Sports Festival in 2018; Gold Medal at the National Taekwondo Club Championship in 2018 and 2022. Last June, Hiep and his teammates won the Bronze Medal in the men's team event at the National Taekwondo Championship in 2023 held in Thanh Hoa ...

Coach Quang Van Lich said: During the training process, Hiep tried very hard, was willing to learn and master new techniques, so Hiep achieved very encouraging results, was often assigned to support the teachers in training, Hiep is maintaining his ability to train and compete, striving to achieve even higher results.

Having been involved in martial arts for 12 years, at the age of 29 this year, national Taekwondo champion Ca Van Hiep is still constantly training and improving himself, aiming to reach major tournaments. Sharing about the future, Hiep is determined to strive to become a coach to stick with his passion, pass on his experience to the next generation of athletes, continue to contribute to provincial sports, and contribute to continuing the success of local high-performance sports.
