He is the village elder A Brol Ve (born 1945) living in Dak Rang village, Dak Duc commune, Ngoc Hoi district, Kon Tum province.

Artist A Brol Ve received the "Exemplary Law" award.

Let's join Vietnam.vn to meet the village elder A Brol Ve through the photo series "Bright example of the village in the border area" by author Huy Dang Pham. The photo series was taken by the author in Kon Tum, where village elder A Brol Ve lives. He is a prestigious village elder, an artisan who uses and creates musical instruments of his ethnic group, such as "Dinh Tut" (a typical musical instrument of the Gie Trieng people), "Khen", "To Rung"... to teach the next generations... He also collects and creates a gallery of traditional musical instruments of the Gie Trieng people in his house. He is also the one who connects the government's policies to the local ethnic people... such as the trash baskets (bamboo) in households, and the environment around the living area of the village community. The photo series was submitted by the author to the Photo and Video Contest "Happy Vietnam", organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications .

Mr. A Brol Ve performs with a team of artists.

He is one of the first few people in Kon Tum province to be awarded the title of Folk Artist by the Vietnam Folk Arts Association in 2009. This year, although he has turned 70, at first glance few people can guess his real age because he looks very healthy, the typical healthy, typical of the Central Highlands mountains and forests.

Village elder A Brol Ve guides children to play the To Rung instrument.

When he was a boy, he often followed his grandparents and parents to learn farming and hunting. His father was also talented in singing and making musical instruments. Every evening, staying in the fields, by the red fire, he often attentively watched his father make musical instruments and listened to his father sing folk songs. Growing up, those old stories, folk songs and the way his father made musical instruments gradually permeated his blood and became a passion. So every time the village held a festival, the young man Brôl Vé was always present and played a very important role in the village's art troupe.

Mr. A Brol Ve had fun with his grandchildren with the gong rhythm.

When he was young, to witness and listen to the sound of traditional musical instruments, he was asked to use some of the instruments that he hung carefully on the wall, and was extremely surprised to see that every instrument he used produced different sounds, very beautiful and very strange.

Mr. A Brol Ve performs the panpipe.

Mr. A Brol Ve's joy when he is always encouraged by the government.

Now that he is old, his hands and feet are no longer as flexible as before, his voice has weakened, but he is still the one who teaches his children and grandchildren in the village how to play gongs, dance xoang, and make musical instruments, especially traditional musical instruments of his people. At the age of 70, he is always concerned that children today pay little attention to preserving and protecting the fine traditions of their people, while our Party and State have launched a movement for the whole people to preserve and promote traditional national culture, taking local culture as the core in protecting the heritage of the nation. Is it because of the needs of today's life with the introduction and interweaving of many cultural values, along with the awareness of preserving cultural values that have not been focused on, that the younger generation pays little attention to this matter?

In recognition of his great contributions, in 2013, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded him a Commemorative Medal for his many contributions to the development of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

In 2024, the Photo and Video Contest "Happy Vietnam - Happy Vietnam" will continue to be organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists on the website.   https://happy.vietnam.vn is open to all Vietnamese citizens and foreigners aged 15 and over.
