Taking us to visit his family's tea hill, Mr. Thuong shared: Due to difficult family circumstances, after graduating from junior high school, I dropped out of school and did all kinds of jobs to make a living. In 2018, I got married and decided to start a business in my homeland.

At first, Mr. Thuong and his wife were confused about what to plant and what to raise to achieve high and sustainable economic efficiency. After learning about the reality, the couple decided to grow Shan Tuyet tea and bananas on the family's hilly land.
To “take short-term to support long-term”, Mr. Thuong planted 1.5 hectares of tea and 1,500 banana trees. After nearly 2 years of care, seeing the tea plants grow well, he planted another 1.5 hectares of tea, bringing the family’s total tea area to more than 3 hectares. Up to now, each year he harvests about 20 tons of fresh tea buds to sell to processing facilities in the area.

With income from tea and bananas, Mr. Thuong and his wife expanded to growing cinnamon and cassava to increase their income. In 2024, his family harvested 22 tons of tea, 40 tons of bananas, 20 tons of cassava and 15 tons of cinnamon leaves, earning a total of more than 380 million VND.
Despite initial difficulties, with their efforts, Lung Van Thuong's family has become a well-off household. Mr. Thuong also helps with seeds, capital and guides other households in the village on how to grow and raise livestock to develop their family economy.

Mr. Chau Seo Sen, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nam Lu Commune, said: For a remote commune with many difficulties like Nam Lu, the example of economic development efforts like Mr. Lung Van Thuong's household is a bright spot that needs to be replicated. Boldly changing thinking and working methods; knowing how to choose plants and animals with high economic value and applying science and technology to cultivation and animal husbandry, Mr. Lung Van Thuong was recognized by the Provincial Farmers' Association as an Excellent Farmer in 2024.
