(Dan Tri) - Vietnamese football has jumped up the Asian rankings after Hanoi FC won against champions Urawa Reds in the AFC Champions League.
Despite being eliminated from the AFC Champions League group stage, Hanoi FC still made a miracle when they won 2-1 against Urawa Reds. This result turned the Japanese team into the former champion of the tournament.

In addition to the historic victory, Hanoi FC also brought important points to Vietnamese football in the Asian club rankings. With two victories in the AFC Champions League, the capital team earned an additional 6.00 points for Vietnamese football. Thus, our average score in the last 5 seasons in the Asian arena increased from 3.265 to 4.767 points. This increase has helped Vietnamese football jump from 20th to 13th place in the rankings. In Southeast Asia, Vietnamese football has surpassed Malaysia to rank second after Thailand. In East Asia, we rank 6th after Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, and Australia. The gap between Vietnamese and Australian football is narrowing significantly. If maintaining a position in the top 6 in East Asia, Vietnamese football can win a place to participate in the newly established super tournament called AFC Champions League Elite.

In recent years, Vietnamese clubs have not been able to advance far in the AFC Champions League, but the gap between us and the top clubs has narrowed significantly. Meanwhile, in the AFC Cup, Hanoi FC reached the inter-regional final in 2019. Therefore, Vietnamese football has accumulated important points. The rankings in Asia are important to Vietnamese football as they directly decide the place of Vietnamese football in the Asian Cup.
