Every day the world records 8 million lightning strikes.
According to lightning monitoring data from the National Lightning Location Network, on the morning of June 5, heavy rain in the Hanoi area was accompanied by more than 7,000 lightning strikes to the ground.
Globally, according to rmets.org, there are about 2,000 thunderstorms occurring at any given time around the world, with 100 lightning strikes per second and 8 million lightning strikes per day.
Humidity and warm air are important for thunderstorms so they are more common in spring and summer, and lightning is also more frequent during this time.
Rising global temperatures due to climate change make the air warmer, which helps it hold more moisture. Humidity increases by about 7% for every 1 degree Celsius rise in temperature. This increases the likelihood of thunderstorms, leading to more severe storms and more lightning.
According to Science magazine, lightning activity increases by 12% for every 1 degree Celsius rise in temperature. This means countries like the US could see a 50% increase in lightning strikes by the end of the century.
According to a study published in the journal Nature Communications in February 2023, the total number of lightning strikes has increased by 43% globally.
The areas with the most lightning are located between the equator and the 38th parallel north and south, with Africa being the continent with the highest frequency of lightning strikes, according to meteoswiss.admin.ch. Other places with the most lightning include South America, North America, Asia and Oceania.
In South America, there are five hotspots with more lightning strikes, mainly in Colombia and Venezuela. Lake Maracaibo (13,210 km 2 ) in Venezuela is the place with the most lightning strikes in the world, up to 260 nights/year. Every year, Lake Maracaibo is struck by lightning 233 times/km 2 .

By 2050, the world must remove 7-9 billion tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.
By 2050, the world must remove four times more CO2 from the air than is currently being done to limit global warming to below the 2-degree Celsius target.
Researchers say the world must remove four times more CO2 from the air by 2050 than is currently being done to limit global warming to below the 2-degree Celsius target.
According to the latest update of the State of CO2 Removal report published by Oxford University on June 4, experts said that when considering different emission reduction scenarios, by 2050, the world must remove 7-9 billion tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.
The previous report said the world was removing 2 billion tonnes of CO2, mainly through reforestation, while emitting 40 billion tonnes last year.
One of the report's authors, researcher William Lamb, said that without drastic cuts in fossil fuel emissions and deforestation, the global warming target set in the Paris Agreement on Climate Change could be out of reach even if global action on carbon removal was aggressive.
The most expensive cow in the world costs about 100 billion VND
Valued at $4 million, Viatina-19 FIV Mara Movéis is the most expensive bull ever sold at auction, according to Guinness World Records.
Viatina-19 is a white cow, weighing 1.1 tons - twice as much as an adult of the Nelore breed. She won a national competition in Brazil, then auctioned off many rings and now fetched $4 million. This is three times the value of the previous most expensive cow in the world.
The cow lives on a farm in Uberaba, Minas Gerais state. It is privately monitored by security cameras, accompanied by a veterinarian and guards. Because of its high value, Viatina-19 is jointly owned by a group of ranchers.
The owner also erected two billboards on the highway praising Viatina-19, aiming to attract pet owners, curious people and veterinary students to see the "super cow".
