In the 2025-2026 school year, Hanoi will have 4 specialized schools: Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; Chu Van An High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, and Son Tay High School for the Gifted.
These 4 specialized schools will be assigned 2,730 quotas for 78 classes next school year. Compared to last year, this is a decrease of 240 quotas.
The reason why specialized schools this year have reduced enrollment targets compared to last year is that Chu Van An High School for the Gifted and Son Tay High School for the Gifted will have to eliminate the non-specialized class model next year. Son Tay School alone will have to eliminate French classes. In addition, Chu Van An School and Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted have also eliminated dual baccalaureate classes.
Admission quotas for specialized high schools in Hanoi for the 2025-2026 school year are as follows:
Numerical order | Name of specialized high school | Admission criteria | Number of classes |
1 | Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted | 840 | 24 classes for 13 specialized subjects |
2 | Chu Van An High School for the Gifted | 665 | 19 classes for 13 specialized subjects. |
3 | Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted | 700 | Recruiting 20 classes for 11 specialized subjects |
4 | Son Tay High School for the Gifted | 525 | 15 classes for 9 specialized subjects |
This year Hanoi has 4 specialized high schools and all of these schools will recruit 100% specialized classes, not regular classes.
The 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi will be held on June 7-8 with three exams: Math, Literature and Foreign Language. Students taking the exam for specialized classes at the High School for the Gifted will take the exam on June 9.
