Previously, the leaders of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training informed that the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year is expected to be held at the end of June 2026, about 2 weeks later than last year. The reason is that, according to the school year plan framework issued by the Ministry of Education and Training , the High School Graduation Exam is expected to be held on June 11-12, 2 weeks earlier than last year.
In 2025, the 10th grade entrance exam will be held in early June, before the High School Graduation Exam. However, with the Ministry of Education and Training's expected exam schedule as this year, the leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that before that, localities will have to prepare facilities, mobilize staff and teachers to serve the exam, grade the exam, and complete the post-exam stages.

After receiving this information, many parents expressed concern and stress as their children will have to study for a long time.
“My child has top academic results in the class and has been studying for exams since 8th grade to have a solid knowledge base, but he is still under a lot of pressure before the big exam. Lately, he has been staying up until 12am and 1am to study. He is so worried that he often has stomach aches and insomnia. I just hope the exam will be over soon to reduce the pressure on him and his family,” said Nguyen Thu Ha, whose child is in 9th grade at Kim Giang Secondary School (Hanoi).
Thinking that postponing the 10th grade entrance exam to the end of June 2026 is "inappropriate", another parent expressed his wish that the Department of Education and Training consider moving the exam schedule up earlier.
According to this parent, after the end of the school year at the end of May 2026, having to wait until the exam only increases the pressure and burden of revision costs for students and parents. In addition, teachers also need to have a summer vacation instead of having to continue reviewing for students until they finish the exam.
Schools are also under pressure.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly, Principal of Nguyen Du Secondary School, Dai Mo Ward (Hanoi) also said that in the meetings, teachers, students, and parents all wanted the exam to take place early, even right after the end of the school year.
On the students’ side, they also do not want to prolong their review time, leading to fatigue and stress. When students are “stressed”, it will put pressure on the whole family. On the school side, there is also no budget to pay teachers to extend the review time for students for an extra month in the year.
According to Ms. Ly, since the beginning of the school year, the school has had a study and review plan, ready for students to take any subject. However, most students and teachers want the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam to be a foreign language in addition to Math and Literature. "Hanoi students have the opportunity to access foreign languages early and are confident in the subject," Ms. Ly said.
The solution of Nguyen Du Secondary School, according to the principal, is that the school closely monitors teaching and learning, reminds students of their learning awareness, and takes advantage of all time at school to review for students. The school also organizes counseling sessions and talks with students to orient their careers and help them determine their learning goals.
"In particular, it is affirmed that the immediate exam is only a short-term goal, but in the long term, students need to determine "study for themselves, study to establish themselves, to build a career", from there they need to make efforts every day. Studying with a goal, not because of invisible pressure will be different from students thinking about the competition ratio and standard scores, which will be very tiring", Ms. Ly said.
Many other principals said that no matter what the 10th grade entrance exam plan is, students and teachers are looking forward to the management agency announcing it soon so they can prepare mentally, have a plan for in-depth review, and be ready for the exam.
“Learning basic knowledge is a process from primary school, not something that happens in 1-2 months. Therefore, the management agency waiting until close to the exam to announce it, putting pressure on students is unnecessary,” said a junior high school manager.
With Hanoi's 10th grade entrance exam having more than 100,000 candidates registering every year, in which the admission rate to public high schools is only over 60%, the pressure "does not decrease at all". Even in the inner city areas, the number of public schools is small, the number of junior high school graduates is high, the high admission scores put a lot of pressure on students, especially those from families with difficult economic conditions.
Circular No. 30 on the Regulations on Secondary and High School Admissions of the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that the third subject or exam is selected by the Department of Education and Training, ensuring that the same subject is not selected for more than 3 consecutive years. The third subject or exam must be announced after the end of the first semester and before March 31 every year. Last year, in addition to Math and Literature, most provinces and cities chose English as the third subject.
