This statistic was recently announced by the travel data research company (OAG). Every year, based on global airline schedule data, OAG publishes a list of the world's busiest international and domestic routes to provide an overview of the performance and route trends of the world's airlines.

According to statistics and analysis by OAG, the route from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City is the 4th busiest domestic route in 2023, after Jeju-Seoul (South Korea), Sapporo-Tokyo and Fukuoka-Tokyo routes in Japan. Ticket sales revenue of the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route increased by 6% and 3% compared to 2019 and 2022, respectively.
Previously, in 2019, the Hanoi- Ho Chi Minh City route ranked 4th and 3rd in 2022 in OAG's list of the world's busiest domestic routes.

Notably, Asia dominates the rankings of the busiest domestic routes, with Japan leading the way. Flights connecting Tokyo to popular resort destinations Fukuoka (a major culinary hub and gateway to Korea), Sapporo (a winter sports favorite) and Okinawa (known as the “Hawaii of Japan”) are ranked second, third and seventh respectively.
The world's busiest domestic flight route in 2023 is in South Korea, connecting Jeju City to the capital Seoul with 13.7 million seats sold. Notably, this is also the busiest domestic flight route in both 2019 and 2022.
The list of the world's busiest international routes in 2023 includes routes from Asia and the Middle East, with only one route connecting the two sides of the Atlantic: New York (USA) - London (UK).
The route from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Singapore tops the list with nearly 4.9 million passengers, up 50% from last year. The flight takes just over an hour, showing that people in these two neighboring Southeast Asian countries prefer to travel by air rather than by road.
