Hanoi and 10 northern provinces are about to have enough water for spring crop cultivation.

According to the Department of Irrigation ( Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ), the second phase of water intake for the 2025 Spring crop is being carried out as planned, for a total of 7 days, from 0:00 on February 8 to 24:00 on February 14, 2025.

With the additional flow from hydroelectric reservoirs, irrigation works have been renovated, repaired and upgraded to meet the conditions for water supply operation.

More than 90% of the 2025 Spring crop planting area in the Northern Midlands and Delta regions has enough water.

The total planned spring crop area in 2025 of 11 provinces and cities (including Hanoi ) is 488,615 hectares. Up to now, the total irrigated area has reached more than 90%.

The specific water-covered spring crop planting area of ​​the provinces and cities in 2025 is: Thai Binh 100%, Nam Dinh 99%, Ha Nam 99%, Phu Tho 96.5%, Hung Yen 94.5%, Ninh Binh 92%, Bac Ninh 91%, Hai Duong 88%, Hai Phong 81%, Hanoi 74%, Vinh Phuc 70%.

According to the assessment of the Department of Irrigation, compared to some previous years, the progress of water intake is about 10% faster. The reason is that after Phase 1, localities continue to operate irrigation works to take water during the high tide period of the Lunar New Year. In addition, the area has rain with a common rainfall of 5 - 25mm (in many places the rainfall reaches 35 - 60mm), so the water area increases quite quickly.

However, some provinces have low water areas compared to the region such as Hanoi and Vinh Phuc. The reason is that the water level during the high tide period during the Lunar New Year is low, so the operating time is shorter. However, both localities have higher progress compared to the same period of some years.

To ensure the progress of water collection for the 2025 Spring crop, the Department of Irrigation requests the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of provinces and cities (including Hanoi) to direct management and exploitation units to continue operating means to collect water. The National Electricity System and Market Operation Company directs relevant units to operate reservoirs according to the direction of the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

On the side of Vietnam Electricity Group, the Department of Irrigation proposed to direct relevant units to provide a guaranteed power source so that localities have enough electricity to operate works during the water collection period.
