According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , as of 3 PM on February 10th, the irrigated area in the entire Northern Midlands and Delta region was 451,762 hectares out of 488,615 hectares, reaching 92.5% of the plan for the 2025 Spring planting season.
Seven out of eleven localities have basically completed their water intake plans, including: Thai Binh 100%, Nam Dinh 99%, Ha Nam 99%, Phu Tho 97%, Ninh Binh 97%, Hung Yen 96%, and Bac Ninh 92%; the remaining localities have relatively high levels of water-sufficient areas, including: Hai Duong 91%, Hai Phong 85%, Hanoi 80%, and Vinh Phuc 79%.
Based on the water withdrawal progress, the results of on-site inspections, the opinions of specialized agencies, and discussions with the leaders of the People's Committees and Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of several provinces and cities, in order to minimize the amount of water released from hydropower reservoirs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed the adjustment of the second water withdrawal phase.
Specifically, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to maintain the current supplementary water supply until 24:00 on February 11, 2025. For the remainder of Phase 2 (from 0:00 on February 12 to 24:00 on February 14, 2025), the water level at the Son Tay station (Hanoi) will be continuously maintained at 1.3m.
After the completion of Phase 2, the hydropower reservoirs will operate according to the inter-reservoir operating procedures to ensure that localities complete 100% of their planting and cultivation areas and provide irrigation services.
To complete the water extraction plan to meet planting needs, the Department of Irrigation (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) requests localities that have not yet completed their water extraction plans to strengthen measures and operate irrigation works at maximum capacity to complete the water extraction plan for planting and to store water for irrigation.
In addition, continue to disseminate information and encourage people to cooperate with irrigation project operators to draw water to their fields, retain water effectively, and organize land preparation and planting within the recommended timeframe to avoid water loss and waste.
