The latest news from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting says that the cold air mass is still moving south.
Around the evening and night of February 2, this cold air mass will affect the Northeast region, then affect the Northwest, North Central, Central Central and some places in the South Central region.
In the North, from the night of February 2, the weather will turn cold, with severe cold in mountainous areas and some places experiencing severe cold. Particularly in Hanoi, from the night of February 2, the weather will be cold. The lowest temperature in this cold air mass is commonly between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius.
In response to the cold weather in the coming days, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that people proactively implement response measures; in particular, absolutely do not sow rice seedlings or transplant rice on days when the temperature drops below 15 degrees Celsius.
For the area of rice seedlings that have been sown but not yet planted, farmers should regularly keep water on the bed surface from 2 - 3cm to nourish the seedlings and keep the base of the seedlings warm; cover the entire area of sown seedlings with plastic when the temperature drops below 13 degrees Celsius.
For the planted rice fields, farmers need to keep water regularly on the field surface from 3 - 4cm to nourish the rice and keep the rice warm; at the same time, properly care for, fertilize, weed and protect the rice according to the correct technical process.
The agricultural sector also disseminates information to farmers: for newly planted rice areas exposed to severe cold, the rice plants will show signs of not growing; many rice areas may have physiological root suffocation due to the cold.
To prevent cold for rice, farmers should add phosphate fertilizer to keep warm and stimulate root growth. At the same time, regularly maintain a stable water level of 1 - 2cm in the field, absolutely do not let the field dry out or let the water level be too deep, affecting the growth and development of spring rice.
According to the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the 2025 Spring crop, the entire city will plant nearly 80,000 hectares of rice. To date, the planted area has reached more than 10,000 hectares. Localities are actively mobilizing farmers to go to the fields to produce; striving to complete the planting of the entire Spring crop area before February 28, 2025.
