Launched in 2021, the “Rabies Vaccination for the Community” program is a typical corporate social responsibility activity of Boehringer Ingelheim in Vietnam, implemented in coordination with the Department of Agriculture and Environment, People's Committee of Duc Hue district, former Long An province (now Tay Ninh province) and Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry.
Mr. Niklas Birkner, General Director of Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Pharmaceuticals Vietnam, affirmed: “The rabies vaccination campaigns for dogs and cats that we have implemented over the past 5 years have proven that when animals are healthy, people are also healthier. We believe that promoting education and raising awareness for the younger generation about rabies will be an important turning point. You will help spread useful knowledge to friends, family and the community, contributing to a more comprehensive elimination of rabies."
After 5 years of implementation, more than 33,000 dogs and cats have been vaccinated, contributing to reducing the risk of rabies spreading and protecting the health of thousands of local households.
Those persistent efforts continue to be spread through the activity "Training to improve communication skills on rabies prevention and control through schools". The program is implemented from now until the end of December 2025 according to the "Train the Trainer" model to train the capacity of teachers and core medical staff at primary and secondary schools in Tay Ninh province.
Through training sessions and visual teaching materials such as comics, leaflets and activity books, the program helps teachers and health workers to convey knowledge about rabies prevention in a vivid and easy-to-understand way. These lessons not only help students better understand how to protect themselves, their families and their pets, but also help spread the message of rabies prevention to the community.
Ms. Dinh Thi Phuong Khanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Ninh province, commented: “The activity 'Training to improve communication skills on rabies prevention and control through schools' has practical significance, contributing to raising awareness of young generations about rabies prevention. The coordination between businesses, schools and management agencies helps the program spread widely, creating a solid foundation to move towards the goal of no more rabies in the community”.
