On November 14, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh signed the Decree establishing the Ministry of Agriculture, the predecessor of today's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment . Over the past 80 years with many ups and downs of the nation's history, Vietnam's agriculture and environment sector has grown steadily, becoming one of the key economic-technical sectors, playing the role of "support" of the national economy, ensuring food security, social stability, rural development, protecting natural resources, the environment and sustainable development of the country.

For Lang Son province, the agricultural and environmental sectors have always been closely linked to the development history of the homeland of Lang Son. The sector has always maintained its role as an important "pillar" of the economy, ensuring food security in all circumstances.
Thereby, the industry has proactively and actively transformed strongly from agricultural production thinking to agricultural economic thinking, had many export products and well implemented the goal of building new rural areas, contributing to changing the face of the countryside and improving people's lives.
Entering 2025, implementing the policy of the Party and State, Lang Son province has merged two major sectors: Agriculture and Rural Development with Natural Resources and Environment, receiving the Office of Coordination for New Rural Construction and the task of poverty reduction from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to the Department of Agriculture and Environment.

Through the process of construction and development, the agricultural and environmental sector of Lang Son province has achieved many proud achievements. The growth rate of the agricultural, forestry and fishery sector has maintained a high growth momentum, estimated at 6.17% in the 2021-2025 period.
The proportion of agriculture, forestry and fishery in the overall GRDP structure of the whole province has shifted in the right direction, gradually decreasing over the years from 25.63% in 2015 to 23.24% in 2020 and 20.52% in 2025. The average income of more than 1 hectare of cultivated land increased 1.25 times compared to 2016, from 48.33 million VND/ha in 2016 to 77.95 million VND/ha in 2025 (an increase of 29.62 million VND/ha).

Many agricultural production models applying high technology, organic agriculture, smart agriculture, and circular agriculture have been deployed. The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program has been promoted, the whole province has more than 200 products certified with 3 stars or more, many typical agricultural products of Lang Son have reached the international market.

Speaking at the program, comrade Tran Thanh Nhan, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the spirit of solidarity, responsibility, efforts to overcome difficulties and great contributions of the agricultural and environmental sectors throughout the past journey.

He suggested that in the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment should focus on performing well the tasks of creating a green-smart-identity agriculture; managing and using natural resources sustainably, protecting the environment; promoting digital transformation in agricultural and environmental management and production; innovating mechanisms and policies - unlocking resources for agricultural and environmental development, increasing investment attraction in green agriculture, processing industry, renewable energy, and eco-tourism.
At the same time, the sector needs to focus on building a team of "proficient-dedicated-pioneering" agricultural and environmental cadres who must truly be "soldiers on the green front", with both professional capacity and a pure heart, vision, bright mind, steadfast courage, daring to innovate and taking responsibility for common development.
