According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lao Cai , in recent times, the livestock industry of the province has achieved many positive results. The production value in 2025 is estimated at 6,410 billion VND (according to 2010 comparative prices). The whole province has 1,505,000 cattle, 13.2 million poultry, and the output of fresh meat of all kinds is 164,000 tons. Along with that, 1,176 establishments meet farm criteria, of which 51 establishments apply high technology. The province has also formed 8 large-scale pig and poultry farming chains, contributing to increasing production value and income for farmers.
Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lao Cai province, said that in order to proactively respond to severe cold, the department has advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue documents directing and guiding the prevention of hunger and cold for crops and livestock in the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop. At the same time, the industry will strengthen propaganda and inspection of cold prevention work at the grassroots level; direct periodic vaccination; instruct people to monitor the weather, stockpile food, reinforce barns in a timely manner, and effectively protect livestock.

However, according to statistics, there are still about 20% of livestock households that do not have adequate barns, mainly in the highlands. Some localities still maintain natural grazing, do not store enough food for the winter, potentially causing great damage if severe cold occurs for a long time.
At the seminar, experts, scientists, businesses, cooperatives and farmers focused on discussing solutions to stabilize and develop livestock farming in harsh weather conditions. The main contents mentioned included: applying modern livestock farming techniques, improving breed quality, enhancing livestock resistance, preventing epidemics and keeping barns warm in winter. Many opinions also recommended the need for more practical support mechanisms for livestock farming households, especially in mountainous areas with many difficulties.
The opinions and solutions from the seminar will be the basis for managers and experts to advise on building appropriate policies, and at the same time share practical experiences to replicate effective models throughout the province.
