Two young men walked to the Independence Palace on April 30.

Departing from Ca Mau Cape nearly 2 months ago, two 23-year-old men from the same hometown in Hai Duong province, Bui Dinh Thuc and Pham Duc Hiep, arrived at the Independence Palace on the morning of April 30.

Wearing the green uniform of a soldier, he went to the Independence Palace, standing solemnly under the red flag with a yellow star fluttering on the day of national reunification.

If you want to go to the Independence Palace on the morning of April 30, you should go from South to North.

If the previous plan was to march from North to South like the previous generation, it would also be convenient, but just because they wanted to be at the Independence Palace on the day of national reunification, two young men of the same age, from the same hometown and former engineers decided to reverse direction and "march" from South to North. In green military uniforms, with dark skin after more than a month of walking in the hot weather in recent days, both Thuc and Hiep said that what they experienced was as expected and they gained extremely valuable experiences.

The appearance of Hiep and Thuc at the Independence Palace excited many people present. They quickly recognized the two young men and many people surrounded them to ask to take pictures with them.

After 3 months of rigorous training in the military environment, the two still felt it was not enough, still curious about the journey of climbing mountains and wading streams, overcoming all the hardships of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the past, so they were determined to make this trip.

The military uniforms kept after their military service such as pith helmets, blankets, hammocks, shoes, plastic sandals, and raincoats were used by both of them.

"We originally planned to take the trip at the end of 2022 right after being discharged from the army, but due to some personal reasons, we had to postpone it. In the process of preparing for the trip, we both had a scientific diet and exercise regimen. In addition, we also learned basic first aid skills so that if we had an accident, we could handle it in time," Thuc shared.

Releasing doves on a special day

Four boxes of pigeons were prepared by the two to be released into the sky on this special day.

"This is the first time I have set foot in Ho Chi Minh City, and it is also on the occasion of April 30th, so the feeling is very special. Looking at the long line of people waiting to go inside to visit, I have an indescribable feeling.

The dove symbolizes peace . Thuc and I, along with all the people of Vietnam, wish to live on a land of freedom and peace," Hiep emotionally shared.

Along the way, if they came across a martyrs’ cemetery, they both stopped to burn incense. When they saw people working, they rolled up their sleeves to help. They asked for jobs along the way to earn extra money for the trip.

Being present at the Independence Palace on a very special day, both Hiep and Thuc knew that everything was within their intentions and calculations. The look of excitement and pride could not be hidden on the faces of the two young men.

The final stop for both will be the northernmost point of the country. The trip is expected to be completed in early 2025. The more they go, the more enthusiastic they become, with no intention of giving up - that is the mood of Thuc and Hiep at this moment.
