Hai Phong signs a street named after late General Secretary Do Muoi

To honor the great contributions of the late General Secretary Do Muoi, Hai Phong City named a major road in the new urban area north of Cam River - the Political - Administrative Center of Hai Phong City after him.

On the morning of May 13, Hai Phong City People's Committee held a ceremony to name a street after Comrade Do Muoi, late General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam .

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho reviewed the great contributions of comrade Do Muoi (birth name Nguyen Duy Cong) to Hai Phong City and the country.

In particular, from March 1955, the Party Central Committee appointed comrade Do Muoi to directly serve as Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, directly directing the takeover of the 300-day troop transfer area in the city and when Division 320 entered to take over Hai Phong on May 13, 1955.

Two days after taking over the city, the Hai Phong City Party Committee held a meeting, chaired by Comrade Do Muoi, Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Committee, focusing on analyzing the opinions and aspirations of the people, proposing measures to mobilize the masses, ensure order and security, clean up, and welcome cadres and students from the South to gather.

From here, the City Administrative Committee was established to continue the work of the Military Commission. The city's specialized sectors were also reorganized and improved.

Along with consolidating and building the government, Comrade Do Muoi paid special attention to developing the leadership team as well as directing public benefit enterprises such as electricity, water, railways, post offices , sanitation, ensuring normal operations to meet the daily needs of the people. Many factories were restored.

More than 6 months after the liberation day, under the direction of the Secretary of the City Party Committee and the efforts of the city's army and people, all key tasks and areas in Hai Phong gradually stabilized.

Along with directing the land reform in Hai Phong from January to May 1956, he also paid attention to leading and directing the investment in port construction, forming port area 1, port 2, and transit areas in Chua Ve, Vat Cach...

In 1956, Hai Phong invested in dredging the port and waterway to ensure easy entry and exit for 8,000-ton ships.

With his qualifications, capacity and prestige, in October 1956, Comrade Do Muoi was assigned by the Central Committee to work in Hanoi. Later, although he held many higher responsibilities, Comrade Do Muoi still had a special affection for Hai Phong. Every time he visited and worked, he left many strong impressions in the hearts of Hai Phong's cadres, soldiers and people.

To honor the great contributions of the late General Secretary Do Muoi, Hai Phong City named a major road in the new urban area north of Cam River - the Political - Administrative Center of Hai Phong City after him.

The road cross-section width is 66 m, with 10 lanes, sidewalks, trees and a synchronous, modern technical infrastructure system.

This is the main axis of the area, connecting the old urban core of Hai Phong with the new Political - Administrative Center of the city.

Representing the family, Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, daughter of the late General Secretary Do Muoi, expressed that Hai Phong City's decision to name a street after her father was not only a noble recognition of his lifelong contributions to his homeland and country, but also a source of encouragement and deep pride for the people of the city and the family, clan, and descendants of the late General Secretary.

The family vows to continue to preserve and promote the values, ethics, and spirit of service that the late General Secretary Do Muoi left behind, worthy of the affection and respect that Hai Phong City has for him.
